No psychologists to issue certificates; Specially-abled SSLC students in trouble
Edappal: The lack of facility to issue IQ assessment reports, are causing severe setback to students with learning disability who are to appear for the SSLC exams this year. The reports are a mandatory requirement for avaialing special facilities for the differently-abled students.
The unavailability of psychologists in government service to issue the certificate and the unwillingness of DEOs to conduct special camps are putting the future of the students in jeopardy.
There are choices for students with learning disability to avail extra time and the service of scribes while writing the exam. To get the facility, they have to furnish either medical board certificate proving the disability or IQ assessment report from government psychologists along with the application for the exam.
At present clinical psychologists who can test IQ and issue the certificates are only there at government medical colleges. They are demanding a time frame of six to eight months to issue the certificate. At the same time, they allege that the health department has instructed them not to issue learning disability certificates.
However, the students can avail the facilities only if the list of students reach the district education offices by November 30. To be included in the list, the teachers first have to confirm the requirement and the DEOs have to verify the same and then the certificates are to be issued by psychologists.
