National Talent Search Examination for Class 10 students
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110016 has notified the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for students studying in Class X.
NTSE is meant to identity the nurture talent and is conducted every year at two levels. The first Stage I is conducted at State Level and Stage-II, at National Level.
Scholarships: About two thousand scholarships are awarded for different stages of education as follows. Scholarship of Rs. I250/- per month will be given for study in Class XI to XII. Scholarship of Rs. 2000/- per month will be given for Undergraduates and Post- graduates. The amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.
Reservation: Slots are reserved at the national level for Stage II Examination which is 15% for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% for students belonging to the ST category and 27% for students belonging to OBC category (Non-creamy layer), 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (WESs) those who have not covered under the reservation scheme for SCs/STs/OBCs, 4% for Children with benchmark disabilities. Selection: Stage-1, selection will be done by State/UTs and those who are selected/recommended from Stage-I examination, will be eligible to appear for Stage-II examination, conducted by NCERT.
Qualifying Marks: Qualifying marks for candidates from SC/ST/PH category is 32% in each paper and for other categories (General/OBC & EWS), it is 40% in each paper.
Important Dates: Dates for submission of application form and conduct of examination, are given below:
For Stage-I (State), the last date for submission of application form will be notified by the respective State and it may vary from state to state.
Examination in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be on 12th December, 2020 (Saturday). Examination in all other States and Union Territories will be on 13th December, 2020 (Sunday).
Stage-II (National} Examination in all States and Union Territories will be on 13th June, 2021 (Sunday).
Eligibility: Students of Class X studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the Stage-I examination, conducted by the States/UTs, in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction. Students registered under Open Distance Learning (ODL) will also be eligible for scholarship, provided the students is below the age of 18 years (as on 1st July, 2020), the student is not employed and she/he is appearing in Class X examination for the first time.
Examination: Stage-I & II: Examination at the State/UT level will comprise of two papers. Paper-1 Mental Ability Test (MAT) (100 questions, 100 marks, 120 minutes) and Paper-II Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) (100 questions, 100 marks, 120 minutes).
If there s any change in pattern for Stage-II examination then the same will be communicated later on through www.ncert.nic.in.
There will be no negative marking in Stage-II examination.
Application Form: The availability of Application forms in a State/UT will be notified by the concerned State/UT (State/UT Liaison officer). The completed application form has to be signed by the Principal of the school where the student is studying.
The last date for submission of the application will be notified by the State/UT. Different states may have different last dates for submission.
Applicant may confirm from the Liaison Officer of his/her state, the address at which the completed forms are to be submitted. The address and contact number of the Liaison Officer of the States/UTs are available (State-wise) in the NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in. All queries related to application form should be directed to the State Liaison Officers (LOs). Filled application should not be sent to NCERT.
Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required which will be paid for the Stage-1 examination. The fees charged for Stage-I Examination and the mode of payment may be ascertained from the respective State Liaison Officers (LOs). NCERT does not charge any fee for Stage-II examination.
Indian Students Studying Abroad in Class X can appear directly for Stage-II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure, which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up the Application Form, available on the NCERT website and send to the ‘Head, ESD, National Council of Educational Research and Training, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110016’ along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination, latest by 28th February, 2021. Application Form for students studying abroad will be uploaded on NCERT website in the month of January, 2021. Announcement for students of Indian nationality studying abroad will be announced separately.
