More KEAM allotments required as IIT, NIT admissions to be completed by Nov only
Thiruvananthapuram: Engineering admission in the state will require more allotments since the IIT and NIT entrance procedures will only be completed by the end of November. According to the guidelines by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the State Commissioner for Entrance Examinations had decided to complete the engineering entrance procedures by October 25. If the admission procedures are not extended, then there will be a vacancy of seats in the main branches in Government Engineering Colleges in the state.
The results of JEE Advanced results were announced on October 15 and the admission procedures will last till 27. Once the admission procedures to NITs and IITs start, a section of students who got admission to the main engineering colleges in Kerala will opt them. Since admission to engineering institutes including IITs commence only after the completion of admission procedures in Kerala, new students cannot be admitted to the vacant seats.
AICTE's premission is required to admit a new student to a vacancy after the completion of admission procedures. Since the last date of admission was fixed after consultation with the Supreme Court, changes can be made only after obtaining permission from the court. If this does not happen, engineering college admission procedures will be completed as decided earlier.
This situation has forced young students into a state of despair and uncertainty. The second allotment will be published in Kerala on October 19. Those who received allotment can pay their fees starting from October 20. The admission procedure in Kerala will end on October 25. The first round of seat allotment by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority will start on October 27. The following allotments will take place on November 1, 6, 10, 14 and 18.
