MBBS: Only 2 colleges can collect Rs 11 lakh as fee
Thiruvananthapuram: The temporary permission granted by the Supreme Court to self-financing medical colleges to proceed with MBBS admission for Rs 11 lakh will be applicable to only two colleges--KMCT, Kozhikode and Sree Narayana College in Ernakulam.
The fee for other colleges except Pariyaram Medical College will be Rs 5 lakh.
According to the advice received by the government, only the above mentioned colleges can collect Rs 11 lakh as maximum fee.
A confusion existed whether the fee announced the other day was applicable to all colleges or to only those colleges which had approached the apex court. Sources say the managements are likely to approach the court demanding hike in fees.
The Supreme court had granted temporary permission for the self-financing medical colleges, which have not entered into an agreement with the government, to collect a maximum fee of Rs 11 lakh per seat.
However, the SC order will only be effective until the Kerala High Court delivers the final verdict on fees.
