Kozhikode: Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), an Institution of National Importance, under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has invited applications for admission to the MBBS Programme of the Institute of 2017.
The selection to the 200 Seats offered at JIPMER, Puducherry (150 seats) and JIPMER, Karaikal (50 seats) will be based on a Common Entrance Examination of 2½ hours to be held as a Computer Based Test (CBT), Online, 4th June, 2017 (Sunday), in two shifts, with morning shift/first shift from 10 am to 12.30 pm and the afternoon shift/second shift from 3 pm to 5.30 pm. The examination will be conducted in English medium only and will have 200 single best response type MCQs from Physics (60 questions), Chemistry (60), Biology (60), English Language and Comprehension (10) and Logical & Quantitative Reasoning (10), each having four alternatives. The questions will be based on the syllabus as prescribed by State Board Hr. Sec. and CBSE for XI & XII Standards. The examination will be held at 75 cities all over India. List of Cities is mentioned in Annexure-VI of the Prospectus that can be downloaded from http://jipmer.edu.in/category/exams/.
Applicant can opt for three exam cities. The allotment of Exam City would be as per the order of preference on a first-cum-first served basis.
Applicant should be an Indian National / Overseas Citizen of India and should complete 17 years on or before 31st December 2017 (Born on or before 01-01-2001. There is no upper age limit.
Applicant should have passed the Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) or any other elective with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education given as Annexure - I of the Prospectus. Those who have passed the qualifying examination other than those mentioned in the list appended in Annexure-I, will have to submit an Eligibility Certificate before admission is finalized. OCI/NRI applicants have to submit the eligibility certificate from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
Applicant must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology at the qualifying examination. Those belonging to the Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribe or Other Backward Classes / OPH need only 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Bio-technology taken together in the qualifying examination. For OPH candidates in general category the minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology taken together in the qualifying examination is 45%.
Those who have appeared or will be appearing in the qualifying examination in March / April 2017 and whose results have not yet been declared can also apply for admission, subject to satisfying the eligibility criteria prescribed.
Application can be submitted only online at ‘Apply on-line MBBS admission-2017’ the applicable link at www.jipmer.edu.in. The flow chart for filling application on-line is given as Appendix (Annexure – V) in the Prospectus.
On-line Registration can be done from 11 am on 27.03.2017 (Monday) till 5 pm on 3.05.2017 (Wednesday).
Application fees can be paid using Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. The fee for the General (UR) & P- UR and OBC & P-OBC category is Rs.1200/-. For SC/ST & P-SC, it is Rs.1,000/-. For NRI/OCI is Rs.2,500/-. Bank Transaction Charges will be as applicable. OPH & P-OPH are exempted from payment of Application Fees.
The process of submission of application On-line is completed only after clicking the ‘submit button’ after Uploading personal details, scanned photograph and scanned signature. Applicant may download a copy of their filled in application which contains Application No., Personal details, scanned photograph, scanned signature and the payment details.
Hall Tickets for the Entrance Examination shall be available for download to candidates whose applications are complete in all respects, from 10 am on 22.05.2017 (Monday). The Hall Ticket will contain (i) Name and date of birth as typed by the candidate in the application (ii) Photo and signature image as uploaded by the candidate (iii) Examination City allotted and Roll Number. No change in the category/ age/name/DOB (Date of Birth) will be entertained after submission of application. The candidates in such case have to apply afresh before the closing date. Request for rectification / change of any other details in the hall ticket shall not be considered under any circumstance. Candidates will not be allowed to appear for the Entrance Examination unless he/she produce the hall ticket from the JIPMER website at the exam centres along with ID proof in original & a photocopy of the same.
Examination day: Candidates should reach the exam centres 2 hours before the commencement of the exam. They should report at the exam venue by 8 am for the morning shift/1 pm for the afternoon shift. Entry to examination center closes at 9.15 am/2.15 pm. Exam starts at 10 am/3 pm. Candidate will not be permitted to leave the exam hall before 12.30 pm/5.30 pm, the time of close of examination).
Candidates should carry only Hall Ticket along with Valid Identity proof and photocopy of the same ID proof inside the hall. Candidate will not be allowed to take the examination without valid Hall Ticket & Valid ID Proof, which includes Aadhar/ E-Aadhar with validated digital signature / Passport.
The response of the candidate for a question(s), on click of ‘Submit’ button, before closing of Examination, shall be considered as the response chosen by the candidate. Questions that are ‘Answered’ will be considered as ‘Answered’. Those ‘Marked for Review’ will be considered as ‘Not Answered’. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded four marks. No Marks will be deducted for incorrect response. The score such obtained will be the Raw Score. This Raw Score will be used to determine Percentile score [for the purpose of Eligibility using Cut-Offs and Normalization [for the purpose of determining Merit / Ranking].
Merit List would be drawn category wise based on minimum percentile values. Unreserved (UR)/OCI/NRI category need score at the 50th percentile, while, for Unreserved (UR)-OPH, it would be the 45th percentile and for SC/ST/OBC/-OPH, it would be the 40th percentile. Details related to the Normalization process is given in the Prospectus. The Percentile scores for the Total Marks for both shifts would be merged and arranged so as to derive an overall merit list / ranking.
In case of two or more candidates securing equal Percentile in the entrance examination their inter se merit shall be determined by considering (i) Higher Percentile scores in Biology (ii) higher Percentile scores in Chemistry (iii) higher Percentile scores in Physics (iv) higher Percentile scores in English Language and Comprehension (v) higher Percentile scores in Logical & Quantitative Reasoning (vi) and finally the candidate elder by age, one after the other on that order.
Only those NRI / OCI candidates who opt for admission under Self Financing Scheme at the time of application itself will be considered for the merit list to 6 Seats for NRI/OCI status candidates.
The list of candidates who qualify for counselling to the M.B.B.S. course would be declared tentatively on or before 19.06.2017 (Monday). The marks/Percentile Scores of individual candidate will be made available on JIPMER Website www.jipmer.edu.in.
Based on the result of the Competitive Entrance Examination, the following merit lists will be prepared based on Percentile Scores: (a) Common (UR) Merit list (A reserved candidate will be considered on General Seat only if no relaxation of the eligibility level (% of marks) and at cut-off level in MBBS Entrance Examination is given) (b) Scheduled Caste Candidates list (c) Scheduled Tribe Candidates list (d) Other Backward Classes Candidates list (e) Pondicherry- UR Candidates list (f) Pondicherry-OBC Candidates List (g) Pondicherry-SC Candidates list (h) OPH Candidates List (i) Pondicherry- OPH Candidates List (j) NRI/OCI candidates List.
In each category the total no. of candidate to be called for counseling will be 10 times the no. of seats available in each category. Details related to the counselling process are given in the Prospectus.

Seats are reserved for Indian National belonging to different categories and also for those belong to the UT of Puducherry belonging to different categories. Of the 150 seats at JIPMER, Puducherry, 50 seats are under General category. The seats in other categories are as follows.OBC-28, SC-16, ST-11, P-UR-23, P-OBC-11, P-SC-6, NRI/OCI-5 (Total 150). At JIPMER Karaikal campus, the seats for various categories are as follows: UR-15, OBC-10, SC-6, ST-4, P-UR-7, P-OBC-5, P-SC-2, NRI/OCI-1 (Total 50). Horizontal reservation is given for OPH candidates the details of which are available in the Prospectus.
The Fee structure for Indian Nationals include (i) Admission Fee (one time.) of Rs.4,000/- (ii) Academic Fee (per annum) od Rs.1,400/- (iii) JIPMER Students Association Fee (p.a.) –Rs. 2,000/- (iv) Learning Resource Fee (p.a.)- Rs. 2,000/- (v) Corpus Fund on Academic Fee (p.a.)-Rs. 70/- (vi) I.T. Charges (p.a)- Rs.2,000/- (Total –Rs. 11,470/-).
The Academic Fee for NRI / OCI Candidates will be US $75,000/- + Transaction charges as applicable. This will be one-time payment, for entire duration of the course, at the time of admission. Admission letter will be issued only on confirmation of payment from the competent authority. Payment is to be made in foreign currency by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Director, JIPMER, Puducherry payable at ‘Puducherry’.
There are separate Hostels for Boys & Girls. All students including NRI may avail a common hostel accommodation subject to availability.
