Kerala plans to reopen colleges, higher education dept submits report
Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is planning to reopen colleges which closed amid COVID-19 outbreak. As part of this, the higher education department secretary submitted a report to the government.
Though the higher education department secretary proposed to reopen the colleges from November 15, the government did not take a final decision regarding this.
It is learned that the colleges will be reopened only after obtaining permission from COVID expert committee and Kerala Disaster Management Authority.
Meanwhile, the government has taken a stance that the colleges should not be opened in the present situation. Most of the educational institutions including colleges are functioning as COVID First-Line Treatment Centres (CFLTC).
At the same time, University Grants Commission has issued guidelines regarding reopening of colleges earlier this month. As per the UGC guidelines, thermal scanners, sanitizer and mask should be made available in the entrance and exit of the colleges.
