Kerala considering forced leave for unvaccinated teachers; action under Epidemic Diseases Act
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government may soon decide on the action to be taken against teachers who are hesitant to take the vaccine.
It was reported that around 5,000 teachers in the state have not taken the vaccination. While those who have a health condition that restricts them from taking the jab will be asked to submit a medical report, others may be forced to go on long leave. Many have been avoiding the vaccine due to religious and pseudo-scientific beliefs.
The government may also decide to take action under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 2021, if Covid-19 spread happens in the school through the teachers who haven't taken the vaccine.
The schools were reopened on November 1. The government had made it compulsory for teachers and other staff to take both doses of Covid-19 jab.
