Kannur University controversial syllabus is non-inclusive: R Bindu
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Higher Education Department considers the controversial syllabus of Kannur University as problematic, minister Dr R Bindu said on Saturday.
“Prima facie, the syllabus gives a feel that political thought is based on religion and caste,” she said in a Facebook post.
The syllabus is not inclusive. An ideal syllabus must help students to critically look at all streams of thoughts. This government believes that education should not be used to strengthen the divisive forces, she said.
The department has informed the university of its position in the issue. Though the government does not wish to interfere in the autonomy of a university, it cannot be a mute witness when the social perspective of a syllabus is compromised, she added.
