Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) on February 16: Apply by December 14
Applicantions have been invited for the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) for admission to the Ph.D/Integrated Ph.D Programme in Physics; Theoretical Computer Science; Neuroscience and Computational Biology in one of the Participating Institutes of JEST.
The Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body established through an Act of Parliament, has recognized JEST as a National Eligibility Test (NET). Fellows working in SERB programmes and qualified in NET are eligible to get enhanced fellowship.

Examination: JEST examination is conducted in Physics and Theoretical Computer Science. One can appear for JEST in one of them only. In each, a common examination is conducted both for Ph. D. and integrated Ph. D. programmes. There is no limit to the number of times one can apply for JEST examination.
The questions are based on the general syllabi of graduation and post-graduation level courses offered by various Indian universities and institutions. Some questions from previous year's examinations and sample questions are available at the FAQ link at https://www.jest.org.in/
Eligibility: Participating Institutes have their own eligibility criteria. The tentative eligibility criteria of admission to M.Sc, Ph.D, and Integrated / M.Sc / M.Tech-Ph.D programs in the participating institutes are as follows.
Ph.D. Programme Physics: M.Sc. in Physics (all participating Institutes). Additionally, some institutes accept B.E. / B.Tech. / M.Sc. / M.E. / M.Tech. in disciplines of Applied Physics and Mathematics, as follows: (i) IIA: M.Sc. in Mathematics / Applied Physics / Applied Mathematics / Optics and Photonics / Instrumentation / Electronics (ii) IISc, IMSc, ICTS-TIFR, IUCAA, JNCASR, NCRA-TIFR, TIFR-TCIS, RRI, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram: B.E or B.Tech (iii) IUCAA: M.Sc. in Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Applied Mathematics (iv) IPR: MSc in Physics, Engineering Physics or Applied Physics (v) SNBNCBS: M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Biophysics or Biochemistry (vi) TIFR: B.Tech Eng. Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc: M.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. in Computer Science and related disciplines, and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.
Ph D in Neuroscience at NBRC: M.Sc (Physics/ Mathematics), B.E/ B.Tech/ M.C.A in Computer Science
Ph D in Computational Biology at IMSc:M.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. / MCA in any engineering or science discipline, with good Mathematical skills and strong interest in Biological problems.
Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech - Ph.D Programme (Physics): (i) SNBNCBS: B. Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) (ii) IMSc: B. Sc. (Physics) (iii) IIA: B.Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical / Instrumentation / Engineering Physics / Electronics and Communications / Computer Science and Engineering / Optics and Photonics (iv) NISER: B.Sc (Physics) or B.E./B. Tech in Engineering Physics , with a minimum of first class marks (v) IISER-Pune, ICTS-TIFR, NCRA-TIFR, and TIFR-TCIS: B.Sc. (Physics) (vi) Bose Institute: B. Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tec. will be considered for Integrated M.Sc – PhD.
Integrated Ph.D Programme in Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc: B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.C.A. in Computer Science or related disciplines and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.
Integrated M.Tech - Ph.D. Programme at IIA: M.Sc. (Physics / Applied Physics) / Post-B.Sc. (Hons) in Optics and Optoelectronics / Radio Physics and Electronics
Integrated Ph.D. Programme at IISER, Thiruvananthapuram: B. Sc. (Physics) or B.E. / B. Tech. in any discipline.
M. Sc. Programme at HRI: B. Sc. (Physics) or B.E./B.Tech degree in any discipline
Application: Applications can be submitted online at https://www.jest.org.in/ latest by 14th December, 2019. Those who expect to complete their final examinations by August, 2020 are also eligible to appear for JEST 2020.
Applications can be filled up in multiple sittings. Modification in a previously saved form is possible up to end of December.
Application Fee is Rs. 400/-. For SC/ST and female applicants, it will be Rs 200/-. The amount is to be paid online while submitting the application using debit card/credit card/Net-banking. Application fee is waived for Female applicants belonging to SC/ST.
JEST 2020 will be held on 16th February, 2020, at Ahmedabad, Aligarh, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bardhaman, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Kozhikode, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwhati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nainital, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Roorkee, Sambalpur, Silchar, Siliguri, Srinagar, Trivandrum, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam.
Admit card can be downloaded from JEST webpage after 20th January, 2020. Admit cards will not be sent by post/email. Applicant has to carry a print-out of the downloaded Admit Card and one photo-id to the examination centre.
