Indian National Science Academy (INSA), New Delhi, has invited nominations for the INSA Medal for Young Scientists intended to honour talented young Indian scientists in recognition of their outstanding contributions in any branch of science or technology coming within the purview of the Academy. The research carried out in India by the nominees will be primarily taken into consideration for the award. The areas of research that would be considered include, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Chemistry Earth & Environmental Sciences Engineering & Technology, General Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biomolecular, Structural Biology and Drug Discovery, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences.
The number of awards will be 40.
Any citizen of India who has not attained the age of 35 years on December 31, of the year preceding the year of award, shall be eligible for the award. Only those born on or after 1 January 1986 are eligible for consideration in the year 2021.
Nomination Procedure: Nominations may be made by Fellows of the Indian National Science Academy, previous recipients of INSA Medal for Young Scientists, national scientific societies, university faculties, post-graduate departments or research institutions. A nomination will remain valid for consideration for 3 years or the eligibility age whichever expires earlier. Re-nomination is not allowed at any stage.
A nomination shall be made in the prescribed format (Annexure-I) available in the Notification at News link of https://www.insaindia.res.in/, along with all supporting documents. Annexure II must be properly filled in including the top 5 publications and sent as a single PDF document. The format for naming the file is given in the detailed notification.
A soft copy of the nomination in PDF must reach the academy through e-mail at ytinsa@gmail.com, latest by January 31, 2021.
Entries are accepted only through nomination by a proposer. Self-nominations will not be considered.
Selection: Those recommended by the Sectional Committees of different subject areas, will be invited to present their research work for consideration of the Committee which will meet in May 2021. Those called for the presentation are entitled for II AC return rail fare and local conveyance as applicable.
Presentation of Medals: Each awardee will be presented a Medal, a certificate, and honorarium of Rs. 1,00,000/-. The presentation of Medals to selected awardees will be made by the President, INSA during the Anniversary General Meeting of the Academy in December 2021. To receive the award, the awardees (along with spouse or one accompanying person) will be paid travel expenses to cover the actual II AC rail fare and local conveyance as applicable.
