HC orders against Kannur, Karuna MCs
Kochi: In a significant development, the High Court of Kerala today issued an order against Kannur Medical College and Karuna Medical College and asked Admission Supervisory Committee to conduct admission in these colleges based on NEET score. However, the Court approved admission of 30 candidates at Karuna Medical College which was allotted by CEE during the spot admission.
According sources, the High Court expressed dissatisfaction over the managements' failure in complying the court order and imposed a fine of one lakh rupees each on the medical colleges. The management authorities were further asked to produce the admission documents before Admission Supervisory Committee for scrutiny on 31 October 2016.
The HC directed the ASC to conduct admission to these medical colleges based on NEET score and the list of admitted students should be sent to Kerala University of Health Sciences and MCI. The ASC was further directed to fix the fees for the Medical Colleges within three months.
The HC, on 7 October 2016, had asked Kannur and Karuna Medical Colleges to be present before the CEE at spot admission with all relevant records to substantiate their claim on transparency and inter se merit. However, the medical colleges failed to do so. Hence, the HC imposed a fine which should be remitted to the Legal Service Authority.
