GETin Student Internship Programme: Apply by October 31
Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India along with Indo U.S. Science and Technology Forum, IUSSTF has invited applications for the Student Internship Programme programme, to work in premier U.S. Universities, in significant areas of Genome Engineering/Editing Technology (GETin).
The Program has been initiated, acknowledging the importance of strategies and techniques in genome modification, as a modern day essential tool for research and development.
The program is open to individuals whose research work has an interface with Genome Engineering / Editing Technology studies.
The Program is envisaged to (i) Provide opportunity to best and brightest Indian students and scientists to gain exposure and access to world class research facilities in leading U.S. institutions (ii) Promote research and capacity building (iii) Encourage and motivate outstanding students to take up research as a career path (iv) Create attractive avenues for skilled overseas researchers to pursue RandD in Indian or to mentor Indian scientist (s) and (v) Pave the way for the next generation scientists and technologists from India to interact with American peers, thus helping to build long-term RandD linkages and collaborations.
Applicants should be Indian citizens currently pursuing a Ph.D. on a full-time basis in various forefront disciplines of Biotechnology (Agriculture, Health Sciences, Bio-engineering, Biomedical, Fundamental Biology or Allied Sciences) at a public- funded RandD lab/ SandT Institute /recognized academic institute / University / College in India. It is mandatory that the theme of the applicant’s research work should have an interface with Genome Engineering/Editing Technology. Duration of the internship will include work at U.S. Universities for a period of up to 6 months. Applicant should not be over 32 years of age as on 31.12.2019. Up to 5 Interns will be awarded every year.
The support include (i) Monthly stipend of $2,500 per month (ii) Return air fare (iii) Health insurance of up to $500 (iv) Contingency of up $ 1,000.
Applicant should himself/herself correspond with their proposed host institute in the U.S for placement/visit. Applicant is required to produce evidence, in the form of a letter of acceptance/ Certificate on the letterhead of the U.S. host institute, duly signed/stamped by the host. The letter should also include the merits/uniqueness of that host institute in the proposed area of research. There should be willingness on the part of the American Institute to accept and extend necessary support to the candidate for the work proposed.
