GATE 2021: Apply by September 30
Applications have been invited for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), the national examination conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee on behalf of National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is basically a national examination on the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering / Technology / Architecture/Arts/Commerce/Science.
Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to Postgraduate Programs (Master's and Doctoral) with Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government Scholarships / Assistantships, subject to the admission criteria of the admitting institute.
The GATE score is also used by some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for their recruitment and by several other universities in India and abroad for admissions.
GATE will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) and will be conducted over six days and twelve sessions on 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th and 14th of February 2021 for 27 Subjects.
The subjects are Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Bio-medical Engineering, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Chemistry, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science & Engineering, Ecology and Evolution; Geology and Geophysics, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Physics, Production and Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Textile Engineering and Fibre Science, Engineering Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, Life Sciences.
The papers in Engineering Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, Life Sciences will have questions from multiple subjects of which one is compulsory. Depending on the paper, any one/two optional sections will also have to be attempted. Detailed structure of the examination in different papers is given in the Information Brochure.
Applicants are expected to appear in paper(s) appropriate to the discipline of their qualifying degree. However, candidates are free to choose any one or the allowed set of two papers (of the allowed combination of 2 papers as given in Table 4.2a of the Information Brochure), as per their admission or employment plan, while keeping in mind the eligibility criteria for the institutions in which they wish to seek admission/employment. For details regarding the admission criteria in any particular institute, applicant may refer to the website of that institute.
Eligibility: Applicant should be currently studying in the 3rd or higher years of any Undergraduate Degree program OR should have already completed any Government approved Degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts to be eligible for appearing in the GATE 2021 exam. There is no age limit to appear for GATE 2021 examination.

Those applying for 2 papers also should fill only one application form. Details of fees to be remitted are given in the Prospectus.
Regular Online application will close on 30 September 2020. Application can be submitted with late fee till 7 October 2020.
GATE 2021 score will remain valid for 3 years from the date of announcement of results.
