Full A+ students also in management quota
Kozhikode: Students are facing a tough time gaining Plus One admission to schools of their choice even after clearing SSLC with full A+ in all subjects. Since full A+ students are also in a hurry to secure seats under the management quota, schools are charging up to Rs 1 lakh for science combination streams. A school in Alappuzha that required only Rs 1000 for a Computer Science combination seat has charged almost Rs 50,000 for a seat this time.
A student from Koyilandy got admission to the Science group in a management seat after failing to get merit admission in nearly 45 schools that had been picked by the student. Another student in Kozhikode got a temporary seat in the Humanities stream. This student joined the science group in the management seat worrying that she won’t be able to change to science group since school change is allowed only after supplementary allotment.
The number of students who have secured full A+ has tripled this year. The admission procedures that were started without ensuring enough seats for eligible students have left many meritorious students without seats. Even the officers in the Higher Secondary Department are saying that out of the students who secured A+, almost ten thousand students will have to take admission in management and unaided seats this time.
Money is being collected towards management seats on various accounts. The donation is taken for lab renovation, to improve other basic facilities and online class facilities. In the case of unaided schools, money is being collected in the name of different fees.
