Four SF medical colleges cannot admit students this year
Thiruvananthapuram: The last-ditch effort made by four self-financing medical colleges to conduct MBBS admission for the current academic year has turned futile.
The Union Health Ministry has rejected the applications of Adoor Mount Zion medical college, Al-Azhar medical college, Wayanad DM medical college and Thodupuzha Kerala medical college.
With this, 550 seats in these four colleges will remain vacant.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) had stayed admission to these colleges after shortfalls were detected during its inspection. Accordingly, the colleges approached the court and also the monitoring committee deputed by the Supreme court.
Following this, the MCI had conducted a re-inspection at some colleges.
Based on the directive of court, the committee had also taken up the complaints of the colleges but declined give them permission. Approving the MCI stand, the Union Health Ministry too issued an order.
Further, the Kerala Medical College has been restrained from admitting students for the year 2018-19.
