Decision on reopening Kerala schools after evaluating Covid situation in August
Thiruvananthapuram: The general education department has informed that a decision on reopening of schools in the state will be taken after evaluating the Covid situation in the month of August.
On a pilot basis, schools in less-Covid affected areas will be opened after Onam, if situation is feasible. The Covid situation in each district and each panchayat with the districts is different.
If the situation is not favourable to reopen schools in September, the syllabus will be cut short. However, at present there is no plan in this regard.
Most of the school buildings are Covid first line treatment centres. If rain intensifies and any flood-like situation happens, people will be shifted to these buildings. Buildings will be disinfected before reopening.
As per Centre guidelines, schools are to be closed down till July. In view of the Covid situation in the country, this could be extended.
