Kochi: Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Fine Arts Avenue, Cochin -682016 has invited applications for admission into Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science) (B FSc (NS)), Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) and the Marine Fitter Course (MFC) for the year 2016-17.
B.F.Sc (NS) degree programme
The 4 year B.F.Sc (NS) degree programme, affiliated to CUSAT, Kochi and approved by DG Shipping, Mumbai, is of 8 semester duration, with integrated practical & on board training on ocean going fishing vessels.
Applicant should have passed 10 + 2 with 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% aggregate marks in other science subjects.
Applicant should also have a minimum of 50% marks in English either in 10th or Plus Two. In the case of SC/ST students only a pass is required in the qualifying examination with the above subjects. Those who have appeared for 10+2 exams during March, 2016 are also eligible.
Applicant should be 17 to 20 years of age as on 1st October, 2016.
The intake capacity is 22 (General-20, NRI-1, Foreign National-1).
Selection to the Programme will be based on Common Entrance Test, Academic merit and Interview. CET score will get 50% weightage, Academic performance at the 10 + 2- HSE qualifying Exam, 40% weightage and Interview, 10% weightage.
All applicants (except students sponsored by NRI & Foreign Nationals) have to appear for a the Common Entrance Test to be held at 1000 hrs on 11.06.2016 at Kochi, Chennai & Visakhapatnam. The Common Entrance Test will be of objective type, with questions from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English language. For each correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded and for every wrong answer, 0.25 mark will be deducted.
Application fee is Rs. 500/- for General category applicants and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST. It has to be paid by way of DD of a Nationalized Bank, and should be drawn in favour of ‘Senior Administrative Officer, CIFNET’ and payable at Ernakulam-16.
Applications can be filled online at http://www.cifnet.nic.in/CAT-Web/home. A person desirous of applying has to first create a login account through the link 'New Candidate Registration’. On successful registration, user name and password will be generated and will be sent to the registered email & mobile of the applicant. Using this user name and password, applicant should login and change password and complete the filling up of online application. Applicants should keep a digitalized photograph & signature (max. 80KB memory, 30mmX45mm in size) to be uploaded during online registration. The Demand Draft towards application fee must be obtained before proceeding with the online registration.
After submission of application successfully, applicant should take the print out generated by the Computer. This along with Demand Draft towards application fee and (i) Attested copy of age certificates (ii) Attested copy of 10th & 12th Marks list (iii) Attested copy of community certificate, if SC/ST (iv) One self-addressed envelope with stamps worth Rs. 10/- affixed, should reach the ‘Director Central Institute of Fisheries, Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) Fine Arts Avenue, Fore Shore Road Kochi-682016’, latest by 27th May, 2016.

Hall ticket can be generated after the approval of this office. Candidate should report at the centre of entrance test 15 minutes before the commencement of the test. The candidate should bring this Hall Ticket to attend the test and should produce for the verification by the Invigilation officer.

Vessel Navigator Course & Marine Fitter Course
For admission to the Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) & Marine Fitter Course (MFC), applicant should have a pass in 10th Standard or equivalent examination with 50% marks in Mathematics and Science. Those who have appeared in 10th examination during March 2016 are also eligible to apply.
Applicant should be of 16 to 20 years as on 1st August, 2016. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates. There is no age limit when employed candidates are sponsored for training. However no relaxation in educational qualification is granted to the sponsored candidates.
Selection will be made only through marks obtained in 10th and entrance examination.
Applicant should be physically fit for strenuous work on board fishing vessels. In the case of Vessel Navigator Course, the candidates should pass the prescribed eye test conducted by Approved Doctors of DG Shipping, before admission.
Those open candidates who are selected to the course will get a stipend of Rs.1500/- per month, on submission of Surety Bond for Rs.20,000/- at the time of admission.
Selection to the Programmes will be through an Entrance Examination which will be conducted by CIFNET at Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Delhi, Kolkatta, Ranchi, Colachel, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, Kakinada, Kavaratti, Port Blair and Ratnagiri from 10.00 to 12.00hrs on 18.06.2016 (tentative date). Entrance examination will be of Objective type, which covers the topics of Maths, science subjects and English language
All eligible candidates who submit proper applications in time will be called for Entrance Examination. The candidates who are not able to download the Hall tickets by 13.06.2016 they may contact CIFNET office at Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam and also refer institutes web site to get the latest information.
Application fee is Rs. 300/- for General category applicants and Rs. 150/- for SC/ST. It has to be paid by way of DD from any Nationalized Bank for the prescribed amount drawn in favour of ‘Senior Administrative Officer, CIFNET’, payable at Ernakulam-16.
