Class 1 to 12 to come under single unit in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Education C Raveendranath declared that class 1 to +2 will be brought into single unit under Director of General Education. Higher Secondary and High School examinations will be unified under a common examination commissioner of the Director of General Education.
The education minister made the announcement after holding discussions with teaching and non-teaching staff associations and representatives of school managements and students here on Tuesday.
The minister informed that distribution of text books in Malayalam medium and English medium have been completed. A special meeting of language teachers and physical education teachers will be summoned to address their issues.
Other major decisions
A common office will be opened for High school and higher secondary schools. Staff will be appointed in proportion to the number of students in High School and Higher Secondary school.
The top authority of the school will be the Higher Secondary school principal and headmaster will be the vice principal. Vice Principal will be in-charge of the administration of classes till class 10. Principal will have equal job like headmaster.
Principal can appoint junior teachers or temporary teachers to share his job.
The Minister clarified that the posts of DDE, RDD, AD (VHSE), DEO, and AEO would continue to exist.
Meanwhile, a joint protest committee of teachers stated that they will stage protest against the government’s decision to merge High school and Higher Secondary sections.
“The government made the move to spoil the public education sector. They took the decision as part of their political agenda. We will not accept the merger,” said the committee.
It is reported that the teachers will boycott school Pravesanolsavam, the official school reopening celebrations, as part of their protest.
