Apply for Common Admission Test (CAT) until September 16
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020 for admission to the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management and Fellow Programmes in Management at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will be conducted in computer-based mode on November 29, 2020 (Sunday).
CAT 2020 is a prerequisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs located at Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bodh Gaya, Calcutta, Indore, Jammu, Kashipur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Sambalpur, Shillong, Sirmaur , Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur, Visakhapatnam.
CAT 2020 scores will be used by non-IIM member institutions that have registered to avail of the CAT 2020 scores. List of such institutions is given at www.iimcat.ac.in. However, IIMs have no role in the selection process of non-IIM institutions.
Applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of applicants of SC, ST and Persons with Disability (PWD) categories), awarded by any recognised University or educational institution.
Those appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.
CAT will be conducted in centres spread across around 156 test cities in two sessions. Test cities will be mentioned in the CAT website and the name of the test centre will be indicated in the Admit Card. At the time of registration, applicants have to select any six test cities, as per their preference, from a drop-down menu.
CAT will be a test of 180 minutes and will have questions in three sections. Section I -Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Section II- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, Section III -Quantitative Ability.
Candidates will get exactly 60 minutes for answering questions in each section and they will not be allowed to switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section. Some questions in each section may not be of multiple-choice type. Instead, direct answers will have to be typed on the screen. Use of a basic on- screen calculator for computation is permitted.
Tutorials to understand the format of the test will be available on the CAT website from October 16, 2020.
Seats are reserved for SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD as per rules.
CAT 2020 registration window opened at 10 am on August 5, 2020 and will close at 5 pm on September 16, 2020. The details will be available in the registration guide.
The Registration fee will be Rs 1,000/- for SC, ST and PwD applicant and Rs 2,000/- for all other candidates. An applicant needs to pay the registration fee only once, irrespective of the number of institutes he/she is applying for. SC, ST and PwD candidates must upload a copy of their SC/ST/PwD certificates at the time of registration.
Candidates can download the admit cards from October 28, 2020 until November 29, 2020.
CAT 2020 results are expected to be declared in the second week of January 2021. The list of candidates shortlisted for the next level of selection will be made available on the website of the respective IIMs. Each IIM will send interview letters to the shortlisted candidates directly. The criteria for short-listing vary across IIMs. Further information on this will be available at the admission websites of the respective IIMs.
IIMs will shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Performance in the CAT 2020 examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity and other similar inputs in short-listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process.
