Kochi: Sitting on the lap of 'guru', thousands of tiny tots wrote their first letter on rice-filled brass platters today on Vijayadasami Day. Poets, scholars, teachers and priests were among those who helped the children write their first letters. Apart from initiating into the world of letters, many kids started their first lessons in dance, music, painting and various aother art forms on this auspicious day.
Special poojas were offered in Kollur Mookambika Temple in Karnataka and thousands of people attended the Vidyarambham, which started today early morning. Elaborate arrangements were also made at various temples including Panchikadu Saraswati Temple near Kottayam, Thiruvullakkavu Temple, Thrissur and Dakshina Mookambika Temple, North Paravur for Vidyarambham.
Cutting across the barriers of religion, caste and class, many participated in Vidyarambham functions. Educational institutions, cultural and literary organisations, churches also conducted Vidyarambham functions on the auspicious day of Vijayadasami, which marks the culmination of Navratri festival.
