A total of 38705 students have qualified in various categories in the Joint Entrance Examination (Advance) for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). This includes the 7094 students qualified to be included in the preparatory Rank lists.
Candidates have to satisfy the subject-wise as well as the aggregate qualifying marks to be included in a rank list. The maximum marks in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is 124 (62 each in Paper-1 and Paper-2) and the maximum aggregate marks, 372.
The cut-off prescribed for inclusion in a Rank List is as follows: (Rank List, Minimum Percentage of Marks in Each Subject, Minimum Percentage of Aggregate Marks- in that order): Common rank list (CRL): 10 % (for each subject), 25 % (aggregate); GEN-EWS/ OBC-NCL rank list: 9, 22.5; SC/ ST /Common-PwD (CRL-PwD)/ OBC-NCL-PwD/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD rank lists: 5, 12.5; Preparatory course (PC) rank lists: 2.5, 6.25.
The vacant seats reserved for SC, ST and PwD candidates will be allotted to the candidates of respective categories for admission to a preparatory course of 1 year duration on the basis of relaxed admission criteria. Admission is given to the candidates in the preparatory course provided (i) the seats reserved for the respective category are vacant (ii) candidates satisfy minimum norms and (iii) candidates have not accepted a seat in the preparatory course earlier.
All the IITs will run preparatory courses of one-year duration for SC, ST and PwD candidates intended to prepare them to pursue the academic program (for Academic Year 2020-21) to which they have been allocated. At the end of this course, candidates are declared as ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. On successful completion of the course, the candidates will be offered direct admission in July 2020 (Academic Year 2020-21) to the already allotted undergraduate course. Candidates admitted to the preparatory course are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020 subject to fulfilling other eligibility criteria. Filling-in of choices for preparatory courses is through the same online portal.
Those candidates who have secured the cut-off for the category have been included in the respective rank lists. Accordingly, the number of candidates who have been included in the different rank lists are as follows: Gen-15329; Gen-Pwd-237; Gen-Ews:3612, 24; OBC-NCL: 7526, 125; SC: 8742, 16; ST:3084,10.
