19-yr-old NEET aspirant found dead in TN
Chennai: Ahead of the NEET exams on Sunday, a 19-year-old aspirant was found dead in his home at Kooliyur village in Tamil Nadu's Salem district. The deceased is identified as Dhanush.Police sources said that Dhanush was to appear for his third attempt in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Sunday.
Dhanush had cleared his Class 12 exam in 2019 and was preparing late at night for the exam on Sunday. However, he was found lying dead when his parents went to wake him up early in the morning.
Police rushed to his home and the body was taken to the government general hospital at Mettur. A case has been registered and police are investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin expressed shock and blamed the Centre for the tragic incident.
Tamil Nadu has been witnessing strong protest againt NEET exam from the part of students and the political parties.
In 2017, the suicide of a student named S Anitha in Ariyalur had caused widespread protests in the state. Anitha was one of the top scorers in the higher secondary examination. However, she could score only below 100 out of 700 in the exam. She was a litigant of the case in the Supreme Court against the national level medical entrance.
At least three students have taken the extreme step in 2018, '19 and '20 each in Tamil Nadu.
