Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan rejected an amendment that excludes Kannur varsity chancellor to recommend members to the Boards of Studies.

According to Kannur University Rules, the Governor, who is the chancellor of the varsity, holds the exclusive right to recommend individuals to the office of the chairman and its members. This mechanism has been followed since the start of the university back in 1996.

Recently, the division bench of the high court dismissed 71 appointments made by the university without the consent of the governor. Following this, the university went a step ahead and amended the power held by the governor as chancellor.
