Thiruvananthapuram: Chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan froze the notification for temporary appointments at APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University after the vice chancellor in-charge gave a report to him mentioning that she was not consulted before issuing the notification.
The notification for the posts of administrative support staff, office attendant and driver-cum-office attendant had not mentioned the number of vacancies. Recruitment will be based on an interview, it said.
The temporary vacancies can be filled from existing PSC rank lists or employment exchanges. However, it was alleged that the current plan was to appoint favourites of the ruling dispensation through direct interviews.
The notification was issued by the registrar of the university.
The employees' unions affiliated to the LDF are not on good terms with the VC in-charge Dr Ciza Thomas as she was not the pick of the government for the post. The Chancellor selected her as interim VC by rejecting the government's recommendation after the Supreme Court cancelled Prof Rajasree MS's appointment.
As of now, the university has 90 temporary staff and 62 permanent officers.
The university employees' federation approached the chancellor about recruitment. The VC in-charge told the governor that most of the accusations levelled by the federation in the complaint were factual.
The chancellor has also said that action can be taken against those who mooted the recruitment process.
