Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday stayed admission to the PhD course of the Malayalam department at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. The action was taken based on a plea submitted by two candidates alleging violation of UGC regulations in the recruitment process.

Thrissur native Theertha Mohan and Ernakulam native Lebi Vijayan moved the court saying the university did not consider the entrance test marks for preparing the final selection list despite UGC stating the 70:30 weightage rule must be followed for test and interview, respectively. The department selected students based on only the marks given in the interview, they said.

They also said that the university had said that admission would be based on the latest UGC regulations. The next hearing on the plea is scheduled for January 23.
