Dubai: Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan informed that a campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi would soon start functioning in Abu Dhabi. The announcement came after Muraleedharan attended a meeting with Indian association representatives of the Northern Emirates on Saturday.

The development came against the backdrop of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the Indian Government and Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The campus will be launched with the help of UAE's Department of Education and Knowledge by 2024. Initially, the students can only enrol in degree courses. PG and PhD courses will be available at a later date. As per the recommendation of the IIT council standing committee, Indian students only receive admission in 20 per cent of the total available seats. The remaining seats are reserved for students from the respective country where the campus is set up.
