Kannur: KM Draupadi Madayi, the headmistress, and a section of PTA members of LP school in Thekkumbad near Mattool here are striving against the management’s move to shutdown the school.

Raising the concerns over the matter, the Head teacher has given a report to Assistant Educational Officer (AEO), MV Radhakrishnan.

Earlier, the school management had approached the director of the General Education Department to get prior consent for shutting down the school in the beginning of the academic year 2022-23. The management, in its request, said that the school is on marshy land.

However, in the report submitted by head teacher, it has been contended that the school is not in marshy land. The 2018 Kerala floods did not affect the region, she said. The head teacher has also recommended developing infrastructure to improve the student enrolment. The management is disbanding the school for its 'other interests', it claimed.

The headmistress and PTA members have constituted a ‘Save School’ committee.
