Kozhikode: Many school students and their parents in the state are troubled by the latest order of the General Education department to dispense the uniform allowance only through the bank accounts of the children. According to the school order received the previous day, students are required to report bank details by March 5. Many students in the state, however, do not have their own bank accounts.

The allowance is granted to boys from Class 1 to Class 8 in government schools who belong to the APL category who has not receive the handloom uniform yet. The bank account details of the students will have to be submitted to the treasury along with the bill.

The finance department had issued a circular to transfer the amount only into the bank accounts of students during the financial year 2021-22. However, the department relaxed the order and transferred the funds to the bank accounts of the head teachers last year. The government is urged to continue this in view of the difficulties in opening bank accounts for students within a short span of time.
