Balussery: The uncertainty revolving around the decision on the grace mark continues even as there are only five days left until the SSLC results are announced. It is unclear whether there will be grace marks this year or whether the bonus mark scheme like last year will follow, as the Education Department has not made any official comment on the matter.

Apart from arts and sports activities, students who are members of Student Police Cadet, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Little KITEs and Junior Red Cross unit are eligible for grace marks. Due to the Covid pandemic, such activities did not take place last year which is why grace marks were not given. Instead, marks were given as bonus points for future studies.

The students and teachers had hoped that the grace mark system will be restarted this year as schools have gone back to the normal state. But the procedures, including data collection and the certificate checking, have not been carried out yet. As the authorities have not sought the required details of the students from the schools so far, it is believed that grace marks will not be given this year either.

There are mixed reactions from the public over grace marks. Though some deem it necessary, there are groups of CBSE Plus Two students who feel that students who get grace marks have an upper hand in earning more opportunities.

The results of the SSLC examinations are scheduled to come out on June 15.
