Thiruvananthapuram: In cases where no regular teachers are available, the school management may give the charge of the Principal/Headteacher to protected teachers. The Directorate of General Education (DGE) has issued an order allowing the appointment of protected teachers from the teacher's bank.

This action is to ensure that day-to-day activities are not disrupted in cases where there is a shortage of permanent teachers and principals in schools that do not have sufficient student strength. The Deputy Directors of General Education will redeploy protected teachers here.

The order also clarified that such appointments can also be made in schools where due to lack of managers, education officers take up the post of regional managers.
