Certificate Program in Bioinformatics at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thycaud Post, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala - 695 014, has invited applications for admission to the Certificate Program in Bioinformatics 2022-23 of Six months / One-year duration.

The program is a platform for highly motivated students to explore bioinformatics through practical ‘hands-on’ training. The program provides a solid base to the use of bioinformatics by providing theory and application training in methods and resources appropriate to all major fields of biological research. It includes best strategies for undertaking bioinformatics analysis, computer programming, statistical methods, data management and reproducibility. Participants will work in the Bioinformatics facility under the close guidance of scientist from Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB).

The Course is aimed at people with a biological science who have little or no experience in bioinformatics. Previous knowledge of computer programming is not required for this program. During this one-year period, participants will gain insights about: Bioinformatics as science. Fundamentals of computer & R programming. Designing & performing bioinformatics analysis. Handling of important bioinformatics tools and resources. Best strategies to analyze high throughput NGS data (DNA, RNA & Proteins). Basics of Data Science. Applications of bioinformatics in biomedical research. Structural Bioinformatics - Molecular Docking and protein structure analysis. Computational Biochemistry and Drug Design. Program will be held from June 1st 2022 to May 31st 2023. Part A of the Program will be of 6 months’ duration and will be Online Training @ 1 hour/day from 9 am to 10 am. Part B which is Optional, for 6 months will be the offline Project.

Essential qualification: Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in any branch of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences or Medical/Engineering Science. Those awaiting their final results are also eligible to apply.

The RGCB Academic Committee will screen all applications and potential candidates will be invited for an online interview. In case more than 20 candidates are being short-listed after screening of applications, an online test will be conducted before the selection interview.
Online Interview will be on 9th May 2022. List of shortlisted candidates will be published on 18th May 2022. Online Certificate Program will commence on 1st June 2022.
