Kochi: A young woman has been charged with forging documents in the name of Maharaja's College, Ernakulam to secure a guest teacher position. Maharaja's College principal VS Joy lodged a complaint with the Ernakulam central police, leading to the registration of a case against the accused, K Vidya.
During the interview process at Attappady Government College, Vidya allegedly presented a fabricated document claiming previous experience as a guest lecturer at Maharaja's College. Suspicions arose when the college authorities detected discrepancies in the document and promptly informed Maharaja's College. Subsequently, the college authorities filed a complaint with the police. It is worth noting that Vidya is an alumna of Maharaja's College.
Reports suggest that Vidya secured similar posts with 'forged documents’ at colleges in Kasaragod and Palakkad.
The Ernakulam Central Police have filed charges against Vidya under Sections 471 and 465 of the IPC for document forgery. However, since the crime did not occur within the jurisdiction of Ernakulam Central Station, the investigation will be transferred to the respective police stations in Attappady and Kasaragod.
Maharaja's College principal confirmed that the logo and seal on the certificate were fake. No guest lecturer has been appointed to Maharaja's College Malayalam department in a decade. Consequently, the college principal affirmed that the certificate in question was not issued by the college and was indeed fraudulent.
Meanwhile, in response to the incident, Higher Education Minister R Bindu said that the college cannot be blamed for the incident since the seal was fake. It was an individual act and the culprits will be brought before the law, she said.
Ernakulam DCC president Muhammad Shiyas alleged that Vidya, who held a position in the college union when she studied at Maharaja's, was a close associate of the SFI state secretary, implying that the document was forged with his help.
