Indian Coast Guard, Ministry of Defence, has invited applications from Indian males for recruitment to the post of Yantrik in the Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force of the Union.
Eligibility: Applicants should be Indian males, who are at least 18 years of age and not exceeding 22 years of age. They should have been born between 1st August, 1996 and 31st July, 2000 (both date inclusive). Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST and by 3 years for OBC category candidates.
Applicant should have Matriculation or equivalent qualification and should hold a Diploma in Electrical/ Mechanical/Electronics and Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) with 60% aggregate marks. A relaxation of 5 % marks in the minimum cut off will be given for SC/ST candidates and outstanding sports persons of National level who have obtained 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in any field sports events at the Open National Championship/ Interstate National Championship. This relaxation will also be applicable to the wards of Coast Guard uniform personnel deceased while in service. Those from ‘Open Schools’ institutes not recognized by Govt. are not eligible.
Physically challenged persons are not eligible to apply. Those withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any other service training establishments and those arrested, convicted or prosecuted on criminal charges are not eligible to apply.

Selection: As the first stage of the selection process, a written test will be conducted at the recruitment centres at (i) Mumbai (Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (West), Worli Sea Face PO, Worli Colony, Mumbai-30) (ii) Chennai (Indian Coast Guard Store Depot, CG Complex, Near Kalmandapam Police Station, GM Pettai Road, Royapuram, Chennai-13) (iii) Kolkata (Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East), Synthesis Business Park, 6th Floor Shrachi Building, New Town Rajarhat, Kolkata, WB-700 161) and (iv) Noida (Indian Coast Guard Selection Board Noida, A-1, Sector-24, Opposite HCL Technologies, Dist Gautam Budh Nagar, Noida, UP-201301). The written tests will have objective questions from respective branches, Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Telecommunication and some questions from General knowledge, Reasoning Aptitude & English.
Those who qualify in the written tests will undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and initial Medical Examination. The testing procedure will take 2-3 days. Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will be conducted for all those who qualify in the written tests. Candidates may have with them the sport rig- Sport Shoe, T-shirt, Trouser etc. Qualifying PFT as per the standards given in the Notification is compulsory. The PFT will include (i) 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes (ii) 20 squat-ups (Uthak Baithak) and (iii) 10 Push-ups. Those who qualify the Physical Fitness Test will be required to undergo initial recruitment medical examination at the respective recruitment centre. Based on the performance in the written examination, candidates will be shortlisted for medical examination in a ratio as may be decided by Coast Guard.
The select list will be prepared from the candidates who qualify in all the tests depending upon the available vacancies. The All India select list of candidates will be displayed at www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in in July, 2018.
Application: Application can be submitted online, by 1700 hours on 19th January, 2018 at www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in. Applicant should ensure that his name, date of birth, father’s/mother's name etc; are mentioned as per the 10th class certificate. He should indicate exact percentage of marks in Diploma up to two decimals without rounding off. Information like personal e-mail ID and Mobile number should mandatorily be filled up. Applicants have to select any one Centre out of the options displayed, for appearing for the selection test.
On successful submission of the online application, a unique Application/Registration number will be provided to the applicant, which may be noted down for future reference and for retrieval/reprint of the e-admit card, in case shortlisted for next stage of selection process. Filling of multiple applications will result in cancellation of all application.
Short listing: Applicants will be short-listed based on higher percentage of marks in the diploma. SC/ST candidates will be given due weightage while short listing. The qualifying cut off percentage can be increased if more number of applications are received.
Call letter/Admit Card: Call up letters cum e-admit card for eligible short listed candidates indicating date, time and place for the recruitment tests, which are scheduled during the month of March 2018, will be tentatively uploaded at www.joinindiancoastguard.gov.in, by end January, 2018, which has to be downloaded. Applicants may take printout of the e-admit card from 31st January to 7th February, 2018. For applicants not meeting the eligibility criteria, a rejection slip giving the cause of rejection with the application number, will be displayed.
While reporting for the test, candidates are required to bring three copies of the e-admit card having allotted Roll number, with latest identical colour passport size photographs with Blue background pasted and signed at the bottom of e-admit card against space provided for the signature. Photograph shall not be older than one month. Candidates shall keep one e-admit card ready along with Original and self-attested photocopies of all required documents (10th class pass certificate and mark sheet, Diploma certificate and Mark sheets of all semesters, caste certificate wherever required and sports certificate (if applicable), to be submitted at the examination centre on the date of examination. They should also bring 10 recent colour passport size identical photographs with Blue background.
Those who do not carry all these documents at the time of examination shall not be permitted to appear in the examination. Original educational certificates will be returned after verification.
Travel Expenses: SC/ST candidates, who are not employed by the Central/State Government, will be reimbursed 2nd class fare by train/ Govt. bus/steamer charges (as per Govt. Rules in vogue) by the shortest route if the home station is beyond 30 Kms from the place of examination on production of ticket.
Training: The basic training will commence in August 2018 at INS Chilka, followed by sea training and professional training. Yantriks are liable to be discharged as ‘Unsuitable’ due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during the training.
