Visiting Students’ Research Programme at Tata Institute: Apply by January 31
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai has invited applications for the Visiting Students’ Research Programme (VSRP-2020) to be held at TIFR, Mumbai.
The Programme will be held at School of Natural Sciences (NSF) and School of Technology & Computer Sciences (STCS) during May 5 to July 6, 2020.
There will be 2 batches at School of Mathematics. The Programme for Batch 1 will be held during May 5 to June 4, 2020 and that for Batch 2, from June 9 to July 9, 2020. Details on the Mathematics Programme is available at http://www.math.tifr.res.in/vsrp.php

Eligibility: For VSRP in Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Mathematics/
Computer & Systems Sciences; applicants should have completed 2 years of undergraduate course work in an academic institution and should not have participated in VSRP before. Accordingly, students in the final year of a three year undergraduate program (line B.Sc.) or pre-final year of a four year degree program (like BTech) or in a post-graduate/Masters program are eligible to apply. Those finishing two years of undergraduate study before the commencement date of the program are also eligible to apply. Those who have applied to the VSRP program before but not selected can also apply. PhD students and faculty members are not eligible.
There is no cut-off GPA / % that is needed for applying for the VSRP program. The overall profile of the applicant which includes academic performance as evinced by grades/GPA, referee reports, applicant’s write up, etc. will be considered while making a decision.
Selection: Selection is purely based on the academic performance of the student, submitted write-up and referee reports. There is no selection test/interview.
Stipend/Accommodation: Stipend for the Mathematics Programme will be Rs 7000/- and for the NSF/STCS Programmes, Rs 14000/-. To-and-fro travel re-imbursement from the place of residence (address for correspondence mentioned in the application) will be paid. Also, free shared accommodation on-or-off- campus is provided.
Applications: Registration has to be done in two steps. In step 1, the basic registration is to be completed by clicking on ‘Apply Online’ button at https://www.tifr.res.in/~vsrp/apply/apply.htm
During the basic registration, applicant has to select ‘Preferred Subject’ from Physics / Chemistry / Biology / Mathematics / Computer & Systems Sciences.
After completing basic registration, applicant will receive an email with a link for advanced registration. Before proceeding to advanced registration, applicant should keep ready Scanned photo (.jpg file of size not exceeding 100kb ) of applicant’s passport size photograph. Applicant can select two areas of research for a selected department. Applicant has to give a write-up of up to 400 words, describing his/her interest in the most preferred field of study. The write up should not contain special characters. In particular, use of equations in write-ups is strongly discouraged. Applicant is also required to provide Names, Affiliation, Designation, Contact address (both e-mail and physical address) and contact phone numbers of two referees who would be filling referee reports for the applicant. They should be teachers or persons with whom applicant has interacted academically. The link for filling up the Referee Report Form online will be sent by email to both Referees after complete registration.
Last date for submission of applications is January 31, 2020.
Referees can fill the online report form till February 9, 2020.
