UG, PG admissions at Indian Maritime University
Indian Maritime University, a central University under the Ministry of Shipping, East Coast Road, Uthandi, Chennai- 600 119, has invited applications for admission to the various UG and PG programmes of the IMU Campuses and its Affiliated Institutes. The Common Admission Test for the admissions will be conducted on 2nd June 2018.
The following programmes are offered by the Indian Maritime University in its Campuses at Mumbai, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam and Cochin and Affiliated Institutes.

Postgraduate Diploma programmes
A 1-Year Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering Research Programmes (PGDME) is offered at Mumbai.
Academic eligibility for various Programmes
For admission to B.Tech in Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering), B.Sc in Nautical Science; Maritime Science; Ship Building and Repair; DNS programme leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science); applicant should have passed 10+2 / equivalent with 60% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics & 50% in English. In case of SC/ST applicants there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks except for English. Admissions to Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science) programme in affiliated Institutes are open only to ‘sponsored candidates’, those sponsored by Ship Owning or Managing Companies who qualify in IMU’s CET for UG programmes.
For DNS, those with 10+2/ equivalent (PCM-60%) OR B.Sc (PCM) / B.Sc (Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years) with a minimum of 60% marks OR B.E./B.Tech from IIT or college recognised by AICTE with a minimum of 60% marks are eligible.
For BSc, those with 10+2/ equivalent (PCM-60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th/12th Examination are eligible to apply. In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.
All applicants to 3-year B.Sc (Nautical Science), 3-year B.Sc (Maritime Science) and 1-year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) course leading to B.Sc (Applied Nautical Science), need to fulfil the guidelines of the Director-General of Shipping, Mumbai with regard to physical fitness. The prospective candidates are required to produce a medical fitness certificate in the prescribed format issued by a Medical Officer approved by Directorate General of Shipping. Only unmarried candidates are eligible to apply for DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science) and B.Sc (Maritime Science).
Candidates desirous of joining these courses are advised to apply for Passport before taking admission.
Those with Engineering Diploma in Marine/Mechanical are eligible for lateral entry (into second year) to B.Tech (Marine Engineering). Those with Diploma in Ship Building Technology from Goa Ship Building Institute and B.Sc (SBR) from IMU Kochi campus are eligible for lateral entry (into second year) for B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering).
For admission to UG Programmes, applicant should be at least 17 years of age as on 1st August 2018. Maximum age fixed is 25 years. For Scheduled Castes (SC) & Schedule Tribe candidates (ST), the maximum age is relaxed by 5 years.
For admission to MBA Port & Shipping Management and MBA in International Transportation & Logistics Management, applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with minimum of 50% marks, from Recognized universities and a minimum of 50% marks in English in 10th/ 12th/ UG Degree. In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however it will not apply to English marks.
For admission to M.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering & M.Tech In Dredging and Harbour Engineering, applicant should be a Graduate Engineer in Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical / Marine / Naval Architecture or equivalent with 60% aggregate. In case of SC/ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks.
Selection to all Programmes will be through Common Entrance Tests (CETs) to be held online from 11 am to 2 pm on 2nd June, 2018 at Agra, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Kota, Lucknow, Meerut, Mumbai, Muzaffurpur, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Siliguri, Srinagar, Trivandrum, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.
There will be CET for UG Programmes, another CET common to the two MBA programmes and yet another CET common to the two M.Tech programmes.
CET for UG programmes will have questions from Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, General Knowledge and Aptitude at Plus 2 level (CBSE, ISE and State Boards).
CET for the 2 MBA programmes will have questions from Quantitative ability, Data interpretation, Verbal ability and Logical reasoning. In the CET for the M.Tech programmes, questions will be from English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Mathematics and General Engineering.
The questions will be of multiple choice type. There will be no negative marking for wrong answers. Candidates who are shortlisted based on CET scores will be required to register for Online Counselling for allotment of seats to the various Programmes of IMU Campuses. This will be followed by verification of original mark sheets and certificates, physical fitness clearance, etc.
Online counselling will be limited to admissions in to IMU Campuses only. Affiliated Institutes will not be included for the process of Online Counselling. Those who have cleared the CET and are desirous of seeking admissions to Affiliated Institutes may approach the Institutes directly.
How to apply
Application Fee for applying online for CET is Rs.1000/- for General candidates and Rs.700/- for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates. Application Fee has to be paid online only at http://www.imu.edu.in/
Online Registration for CET can be done up to 5.30 pm on 11th May, 2018 except BBA programme which is 20th June, 2018. Hall Tickets can be downloaded from the website from 16th May 2018.
The Common Admission Test will be conducted on 2nd June 2018.
