THSTI-JNU PhD Program: Apply by May 20

Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India; NCR Biotech Science Cluster, 3rd Milestone, Faridabad-Gurugram Expressway, P.O. Box No. 04, Faridabad 121001, has invited applications for admission to the THSTI-JNU PhD Program for the Academic Year 2020-21 (Monsoon Session)

The thematic areas of ongoing research are: Infection & Immunology; Maternal & Child Health; Non-Communicable Disease; Multidisciplinary Clinical & Translational Research. Eligibility: Applicants should satisfy the eligibility for Group A or Group B.

For Group A, applicant should have a Master’s degree in any branch of Biomedical/ Life Sciences (including Veterinary Science, Public health, Pharmaceutical Sciences), Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Computer Science or Mathematics or a B Tech in Biotechnology from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or its equivalent. Applicant must have qualified in the JRF examination of CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT (category I only), NBHM or AYUSH-NET which provides fellowship for their PhD program. Those having AYUSH-NET fellowship will conduct research work in the fields related to AYUSH only.

For Group B applicant should have MBBS/MD/MDS/MPH from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent OR BE/B.Tech. (Computer Science/ Biotechnology/ Biomedical engineering/ Mechanical/Electronics/Electrical engineering)/ B. Pharma or Post-graduate degree in Life Sciences (all disciplines), Pharmacy, Medicinal chemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Bioinformatics from a recognized university/institute with at least 55% marks or its equivalent along with NET-LS/DBT-II category or a valid GPAT/GATE qualification OR should have SRF fellowship from ICMR, CSIR. Those in Group B will receive THSTI fellowship equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount.

Those appearing in the final qualifying examination may also apply. However, they will be required to fulfil the above academic/ fellowship criteria at the time of joining the PhD program, by 1st July 2020.

A relaxation in marks/ grade during Master’s Degree for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled or any other category will be applicable as per the UGC notification, 5th May 2016 or subsequent notification in effect at the time of interview.

Application procedure: Applications may be submitted online at https://thsti.res.in/phd_programme.php by 20th May, 2020.

Application fee is Rs. 500/- for General and OBC categories and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/Women/differently-abled categories, to be paid online.

Selection procedure: Names of shortlisted candidates for Group A and Group B will be announced at the website by 29th May, 2020.

Group A: The candidates shortlisted for Group A will be called directly for the interview on 8th and 9th June 2020.

Group B: The candidates shortlisted for Group B will have to appear for a written examination on 8th June, 2020. The candidates who will qualify the written examination will be called for the interview on 9th and 10th June 2020.

Final selection will be made based on the applicant’s performance in the interview and the list of selected candidates will be published on the THSTI website within one working week after the interview. Dates are tentative.

Fellowship: Students from group A, selected for admission to the PhD program and holding fellowship from any of the specified agencies have to activate their own fellowship. Students selected from Group B will be awarded THSTI fellowship equivalent to the CSIR-UGC Fellowship amount.

No. of seats: A maximum of 22 candidates may be selected this session.
