Summer Student Programme at Saha Institute: Apply by Jan 25
Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Sector - 1, Block - AF Bidhan Nagar, Kolkata- 700064, has invited applications for the Summer Student Programme (SSP) for 2019 to be held at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (Saltlake), Kolkata during 20th May, 2019 to 20th July, 2019.
Selected students participate in research and developmental work under the supervision of a faculty/ scientific staff/research staff for about 8 weeks. Talented students will be introduced to frontiers of research activities carried out in the institute. The selected students will get financial help and travel allowances as per the rules of the institute. Limited hostel facilities for the outstation candidates are available. The selection is based on the academic records of the students and letters of recommendation.
The Summer Students Programme (SSP) is offered in two different streams: (a) Physical Sciences, (b) Biological and Chemical Sciences. The program will typically involve participation in an assigned project, attending some lectures, and submitting a final report in the prescribed format.
Eligibility: Applicant should be an Indian national. Applicant should be first-year M.Sc. or equivalent B. Tech (at the completion of 3rd year) student with excellent academic records in Physical/Chemical/Life Sciences/Engineering. Those doing an integrated M.Sc. (BS-MS) should have completed at least 3 years. Only those candidates whose academic interests overlap with areas being pursued in SINP, will be considered.
Selection: Preliminary selection is purely based on the academic performance of the student (weighted appropriately by the ranking of the student's current affiliation) and a submitted write-up. After initial selection, the Institute will seek referee reports to make the final selection. The process does not involve any written test or interview. The selection in two different streams of Physical Science, and Biological and Chemical Sciences are independent.
Stipend/Accommodation: Selected students will get a monthly stipend of Rs 7000/-. The selected students will be also paid round trip Sleeper-Class train fare from the place of their residence/home to the institute. The off-campus students will be provided with free shared accommodation. If the selected candidate is a fellow from KVPY, INSPIRE, Academies or any other similar fellowship program, SINP will not cover any expense that the fellowship covers. Applicants may mention this while filling up the online form. This is, however, independent of the selection in the program.
Application: Application can be submitted online at http://www.saha.ac.in/web/summer-current-program, latest by January 25, 2019. An applicant may apply only in one channel. After submission of applications, applicant should take a print out of the application for his/her record. A recommendation letter is mandatory for applying for this programme. The recommender will get an automatic email from the institute, after short-listing of the candidates is done.
