Post Graduate Diploma in Book Publishing Studies: Apply by September 4
Centre for Studies in Book Publishing, University Of Calcutta has invited applications for admission to the One year, Evening, Post Graduate Diploma In Book Publishing Studies (PGDBPS) Session: 2018-19, conducted in collaboration, in collaboration with the National Book Trust, India (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) and the Publishers & Booksellers Guild, Kolkata, a premier Forum of Leading Publishers
Book publishing is a career option having a huge demand for skilled and well-trained professionals. The course provides the best quality training the industry is looking for. Internship is compulsory. Study Tours and Workshops are arranged regularly. Placement support will be provided.
The Course is expected to equips the student with the understanding of both the business and cultural aspects of book publishing, Core skills in topics like Editorial Techniques, Design, Production and Post-Production, Legal aspects of publishing, protecting copyright, contract, checking piracy etc; Functions of all stakeholders in book publishing and overall management of publishing establishments; Book Promotion and Marketing of Books; Basic principles of Financial Management in book publishing etc.
Eligibility: Applicant should hold a Graduation in any stream (Hons/ Pass/ General/ Vocational, etc) from a recognized University. Those who have appeared at the final examination for graduation are also eligible to apply. However, if selected, such a candidate has to submit the proof (pass certificate, mark sheet, etc) of his/her graduation before admission to the course. There is no upper age limit for admission.
Seats: A total of 30 seats are available for the course. Of this, 5 seats are reserved for candidates sponsored by publishing/printing organizations and 1 seat is reserved for NRI/Foreign candidates. Reservation is also available for Scheduled Caste (22 percent/ 7 seats), Scheduled Tribe (6 percent/2 seats), OBC-A (1 seat)/ OBC-B (1 seat) /Physically Handicapped (3 percent/1 seat) candidates as per rules.
Candidates having 40% and above disability should submit a certificate issued by the relevant Government Hospital. NRI/ Foreign candidates shall have to comply with the relevant rules of the University.
Selection: Selection will be based on merit to be assessed based on a Written Admission Test followed by Interview. The Admission Test of 75 minutes duration, carrying a maximum of 75 marks to be held at 11.30 am on 8th September 2018 (Saturday), followed by an Interview at 1 pm on the same day at Office of the CSBP (Asutosh Building, First Floor, College Street Campus).
The test will have Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions/ True and False from General Knowledge, Reasoning Ability, Comprehension Skill, Book Publishing & Production, language ability, etc. Each question carries one mark. Interview will carry 25 marks. Applicants should qualify in the Written Admission Test by securing at least 20% of the marks. Final selection will be made on the basis of cumulative score of the written test and interview. In case suitable Sponsored candidate(s)/ NRI candidate(s) is/are not found, vacancies will be filled-in from among the general candidates duly selected.
Course Fee: Course fee is Rs. 10,000/-. It is Rs.11, 000/- for sponsored candidates and Rs.25,000/- for NRI/ Foreign candidates. Course Fee has to be paid in full at the time of admission, in the form of a single crossed Bank Draft/Banker's Cheque, drawn in favour of ‘CU A/C P.G. Diploma Course In Book Publishing’, payable at Kolkata. Library Fee and Examination Fee have to be paid in addition to this.
Application Form: Application Forms can be collected in person from the C.U Sales Counter, Asutosh Building (Ground Floor), College Street Campus (Asutosh Sikhsha Prangan), Kolkata-700073, on payment of Rs.200/- in cash up to 4th September 2018 from Monday to Friday during 10.30 am to 3 pm. It can also be downloaded from www.caluniv.ac.in though the ‘Admission Notification’ section.
Applicants are required to enclose along with your Application Form, self-attested photocopies of the following (i) Mark sheet/ Certificate of the Madhyamik/ Secondary/ICSE/ISC/H.S. and graduation level examinations (ii) Age proof certificate (iii) Appropriate Certificate for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe/ OBC-A/ OBC-B/ Physically Handicapped candidates (iv) Certificate of Computer knowledge, if any (v) Photo Identity Card, such as, Voter Identity Card/ Passport/ Driving Licence / PAN Card/ Adhaar Card etc. Two passport size photographs are to be pasted on the Application Form.
In case of Sponsored applicants, an applicant sponsored by publishing/printing organisations, is required to enclose self-attested photocopies of the PAN Card and the Trade Licence of the sponsoring organization concerned with the Application Form, along with other documents/testimonials stated above. Validity of the sponsorship will be verified duly.
Filled up Application Form can be submitted to the office of the Centre for Studies in Book Publishing (CSBP), Asutosh Building (First Floor), College Street Campus (Asutosh Siksha Prangan), Kolkata-700073, West Bengal between 2 pm and 6.30 pm (Working Days: Monday-Friday] on or before 4 September 2018. If submitted by post, thye envelope should be super-scribed, ‘Application For Admission To The P.G. Diploma In Book Publishing Studies, Session 2018-19’ and must be addressed to ‘Joint Coordinator, P.G. Diploma in Book Publishing Studies, Centre for Studies in Book Publishing (CSBP), Asutosh Building (First Floor), College Street Campus (Asutosh Siksha Prangan), Kolkata-700073, West Bengal’.
Last date for submission of applications is 4th September 2018.
A list of applicants whose applications are received by post will be uploaded on the Website of the University of Calcutta on 5th September 2018.
Admit Card: Those who submit applications in-person have to collect their Admit Cards for Written Test/ Interview, from the CSBP office in-person by 7th September 2018 between 2 pm and 6.30 p.m, by submitting the ‘Acknowledgement’ issued.
Those who submitted applications by post, have to collect their Admit Cards from the CSBP office in person, within 8th September 2018 between 10.30 a.m and 11.15 a.m on submission of a photo identity card, such as, Passport/ Voter Identity Card/ PAN/ Driving License, etc.
The list of candidates selected will be published at 3.30 pm on 18th September, 2018 (Tuesday).
Admission will be between 11.30 pm and 5 pm during 19-27 September 2018. All relevant documents/ testimonials have to be submitted in original at the time of admission for necessary verification as per rules. Candidates must submit/ bring following documents/ testimonials at the time of admission. (i) Mark sheets/ certificates/ SC/ST/ Physically Handicapped (PH)/OBC-A/OBC-B certificates issued by competent authorities/ Photo Identity Card( such as, Voter Identity Card/ Passport/ Driving Licence/PAN Card/ Adhaar Card etc) in original (ii) Self attested photo copies of the mark sheets/ certificates of the school final, higher secondary and graduation level examinations; age proof certificate; appropriate certificate for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe/ OBC-A/OBC-B/Physically Handicapped candidates (iii) 3 passport size photographs (iv) Photocopy of the Bank Draft/Bankers Cheque ( signed in full by the candidate) (v) Photocopy of the Photo Identity Card, such as, Voter Identity Card/ Passport/ Driving Licence/ PAN Card/ Adhaar Card etc. ( signed in full by the candidate) (vi0 Admit Card (issued for the Written Test and Interview) in original.
