Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore - 560034, a DST-funded, research institute, devoted to research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and related areas of Physics, has invited applications for admission to the Ph.D. program for 2021, offered in collaboration with Pondicherry Central University, Puducherry.
The main campus is located in Koramangala, Bangalore. Additionally, the institute also has various field centres, including the Centre for Research and Education in Science and Technology (CREST) at Hosakote, Bangalore, and the observing facilities at Gauribidanur, Hanle, Kavalur and Kodaikanal.
Eligibility: Those expecting to complete their M.Sc., Integrated M.Sc. or M.E./M.Tech. degrees by July 2021 and have qualified through JEST/GATE/JRF in NET-CSIR-UGC exam can apply.
The subject requirements of the Qualifying Degree are as follows:
- MSc/Integrated MSc in Applied Physics/Engg.Physics; Applied Mathematics; Astronomy; Electronics; Photonics/Optics; Physics
- ME/M.Tech.; Integrated ME/M.Tech in Applied Physics/Engg. Physics; Computer Science; Electrical; Electronics; Instrumentation; Photonics/Optics/Opto-Electronics; Radio Physics and Electronics
- M.Phil in Applied Physics; Instrumentation; Photonics/Optics; Physics
The qualifying degree should have been obtained in 2017 or later.
Applicant should have (i) qualified for JRF in the NET/CSIR/UGC exam or (ii) scored 97 percentile or above in the JEST or (iii) scored 98 percentile or above in GATE(Physics). Scores must be valid at the time of admission. Those applying based on their GATE / JEST score must have qualified in the PHYSICS paper of GATE / JEST.
Applicant should have scored aggregate of 60% marks or above throughout his/her academic career.
Upper age limit is 25 years as on January 1, 2021.
Selection: Initial screening will be based on overall academic performance. Shortlisted applicants may be called for an interview. The interview will be held online (by audio-visual /audio means) or in Bangalore. In case of difficulty in holding the interview, candidates will be selected based on their academic record. Original documents of all academic records (mark sheets, certificates etc.) must be produced upon demand.
