Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai, an Advanced Research Institute Established by Reserve Bank of India and a Deemed to be University, has invited applications for admission to MSc Economics and PhD in Development Studies Programmes for 2021 session.
M.Sc. (Economics): This is a two-year programme commencing end July 2021. Applicant should hold B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./B.Stat./B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.
Need-based scholarships are available for Masters students as per Institute’s norms.
Ph.D. (Development Studies): This a four year programme commencing end July 2021. Applicant should have M.A./M.Sc in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/M.B.A./M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.
Stipend: Ph.D. students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.25,000/- (to be revised) in the first two years. Those students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for Ph.D. registration, will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.35,000/- (to be revised) after Ph. D. registration in the third year.
Selection: Selection to both Programs will be based on Online test and an interview. The Online test will be held on Saturday, May 8 2021 (afternoon hours) at Centres across the country given in the Notification.
The Online test for M.Sc. will emphasize on general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills at appropriate levels. In addition, M.Sc. students will have to answer a section either on Economics or Mathematics at the undergraduate level.
The Online test for Ph.D. will emphasize on English, Analytical ability, General understanding of Economic Environment and Mathematical skills at appropriate levels.

Based on the performance in the Online test, short listed candidates will be called for online interview around second/third week of June 2021.
Application: Application can be submitted online at the ‘Admissions 2021’ link at www.igidr.ac.in, latest by April 18, 2021. Application fee is Rs. 500/- (Rs.100/- for Sc/ST/Physically Disabled/OBC (NCL)/EWS categories) to be paid online. Those appearing for their final degree examinations on or before July 15, 2021 are eligible to appear for the Online test.
