Master’s Course in Wildlife Science at Wildlife Institute of India: Apply by April 25
Wildlife Institute of India (WII), an Autonomous Institution of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, Chandrabani, Dehra Dun, Uttarakhand-248 001, has invited applications from eligible Indian and foreign candidates having passion for wildlife and conservation, for admission to the 2 years residential Master’s Course in Wildlife Science (2019-21).
The Wildlife Institute of India is a premier national institute for training, research and advisory services in the field of wildlife conservation and management.
Eligibility: Applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Medical Science, Engineering, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Forestry, Pharmacy, Social Science or Computer Science or degrees recognized as equivalent thereof after a minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2).
Applicants from the fields of Engineering, Social Science, Computer Science etc. should have Biology as one of the subjects in Higher Secondary Education Board or other equivalent board.
Those who have appeared or will be appearing at final examination of the qualifying Bachelor’s degree and whose result is still awaited may also apply subject to providing their Graduation Pass Certificate prior to the registration in the course at Saurashtra University, tentatively by 1st August 2019, failing which the admission will stand cancelled.
Applicant should have 50 percent in aggregate at B.Sc. level for General/OBC category (45 percent for SC/ST candidates).
Age Limit: Applicant should not be more than 25 years as on July 1, 2019 with relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for other reserved category candidates (SC/ST). For the in-service candidates working in Forest and Wildlife Departments, the age limit is 35 years as on July 1, 2019. For the foreign candidates upper age limit is 28 years as on July 01, 2019.
Selection Process: Eligible Indian applicants will be required to appear for an online National Eligibility Test (NET) at 1000 hrs on 5th May 2019 (Sunday) at one of Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Dehra Dun, Ranchi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Aizawl and Jammu. The allocation of test centres would be decided by the institute on the basis of number of candidates registered for a particular centre and the candidate would be accordingly informed.
NET will be for 2 hours duration, carrying 100 marks. The Test would have 3 sections, with Section 1 having 30 multiple choice questions on General Awareness including Current Affairs, Quantitative Skills, English Language and Computer knowledge (30 marks), Section 2 having 40 multiple-choice questions on environment, forest, wildlife and conservation issues (40 marks) and Section 3 having a question to write a 200 word essay on environmental, forest, wildlife or conservation issue (30 marks).
Based on NET screening test, shortlisted candidates will be called for a Personality and Aptitude Test (PAT) and interview at Dehra Dun on 29-30 May 2019. Final selection to the course will be made on the basis of combined merit of 70% marks obtained in the NET and 30% of PAT.
Shortlisted candidates belonging to ‘General Category’ will be interviewed on 29th May, 2019, while shortlisted reserved category (SC/ST/OBC) candidates will be interviewed on 30th May, 2019.
In case more than one candidate gets equal marks in NET and PAT, preference will be given to the candidate with higher aggregate marks (%) in the graduation level.
The selected Indian nationals will have to confirm their acceptance of selection offer positively by 10 June, 2019 by email, failing which, the waitlisted candidates in appropriate lists will be offered the seat.

All in-service candidates are required to register online and route their applications (after successful online registration, application submission and payment of fees) through proper channel to the ‘Course Director, XVII M.Sc. Wildlife Science Course, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun, Uttarakhand-248001’, by Registered Post, to reach by 2nd May, 2019 positively. However, they may send an advance copy for preliminary consideration. Envelope containing application of in-service candidate being sent through proper channel should be marked ‘Application of In-Service Candidate for XVII M.Sc. Wildlife Science Course’.
Eligible candidates may download their Admit card from weblink provided. The admit card will have details of Examination Centre, Date and Time of online NET.
The Institute will upload the result of NET and shortlisted candidates for PAT latest by 15th May 2019.
The course intake is 20 students (15 Indian and 5 foreign nationals). The Institute will provide scholarship to top eight Indian students based on their merit. The scholarship covers academic fee, hostel accommodation fee and monthly stipend of 3,000/-. Remaining twelve students will have to bear full fee and be considered as self-sponsored.
