M Des at National Institute of Design: Apply by November 7
National Institute of Design has invited applications for admission to the two-and-a-half year long Master of Design (M.Des.) Programmes offered by it at its campuses in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar.
The Campuses and the Programmes are as follows. Ahmedabad: Animation Film Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Product Design, Textile Design (19 seats each) and Ceramic and Glass Design (12); Gandhinagar: Apparel Design, Lifestyle Accessory Design, Strategic Design Management, New Media Design, Photography Design, Transportation & Automobile Design (19 each) and Toy & Game Design (12); Bengaluru: Design for Retail Experience, Digital Game Design, Information Design, Interaction Design and Universal Design (19 each).
Reservation of seats for Indian nationals will be as per Government of India guidelines.
An applicant can apply to a maximum of only two disciplines. Seat allotment will be based on the preference submitted by candidate at the time of submitting their application.
Eligibility: Indian National applicants of general and General Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) should have been born on or after 1 July 1990. OBC-NCL, SC & ST categories born on or after 1 July 1987 and PwD Reserved Category, born on or after 1 July 1985 are eligible for admission.
Educational Qualification: Applicant must hold one of the following (i) Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th Standard/equivalent, from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Applicant must have passed Bachelor degree examination at the time of document verification tentatively fixed in April/May 2020 and or (ii) Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard/equivalent. Applicant should have passed the Degree examination before June 2019 or (iii) Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard/equivalent from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Applicants must have passed the Diploma examination at the time of document verification tentatively fixed in April/May 2020.
In case the degree/certificate has been obtained from a university/board of any country other than India, an equivalence certificate must be obtained by the candidate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi (www.aiu.ac.in), at the time of document verification tentatively fixed in April/May 2020.
Design Aptitude Test (DAT): Admission will be on the basis of the two-stage Design Aptitude Test that will have DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. DAT Prelims will be held on December 29, 2019 (Sunday) and will have a paper carrying 100 marks and comprising of a Common Design Aptitude Test and a discipline-specific test to assess the Design Aptitude of the candidate. It will have both objective and subjective tests. The question paper will be in English only. DAT Prelims question paper of 2019 is available at the Downloads link at http://admissions.nid.edu/.
DAT Prelims, will be held at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur and Thiruvananthapuram.
For those applying only for 1 discipline, the test duration will be 2.5 hours with 30 minutes for CDAT (Common Design Aptitude Test) and 2 hours for the Discipline specific test. For those applying in 2 disciplines, it will be 4.5 hours, of which 30 minutes will be for CDAT and 4 hours for the 2 Discipline specific tests.
DAT Prelims result will be announced at 4 pm on 18th February, 2020.
Candidates shortlisted after the DAT Prelims will be invited to appear for the DAT Mains at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru or Gandhinagar depending on the discipline(s) selected, the details of which are given in the Handbook. The schedule of DAT Mains will be announced later. The Admit Card for shortlisted candidates will be made available for download at http://admissions.nid.edu/
The DAT Mains for M.Des Programmes consists of two parts, the Studio Test and the Interview. The Studio Test may consist of tests in different formats. The duration will be three hours. DAT Mains will be conducted in English. Interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test at the same centre.
Weightages of DAT Prelims & DAT Mains for final result will be 30% and 70% respectively.
Application: Applications can be submitted online at http://admissions.nid.edu/, following the instructions there, till, 1400 hrs on 7th November, 2019 (Thursday). After this time limit, applications can be submitted online latest by 1400 hours on 13.11.2019 (Wednesday), with an application fee which would be double the normal applications fee to be paid by the normal date.
Application fee for applying for I discipline will be Rs.2000/- for General, General-EWS and OBC-NCL categories. For SC/ST/PwD, it will be Rs.1000/-. The application fee under these two categories would be Rs.4000/- and Rs.2000/- respectively for those applying for 2 disciplines. For applications submitted after 2 pm on 7.11.2019, up to 2 pm on 13.11.2019, the fee would be Rs.4000/-/Rs.2000/- for 1 discipline and Rs.8000/-/Rs.2000/- for 2 disciplines. This amount includes the late fee also. The Application fees can be paid online by Debit/Credit card or by DD.
For those paying fee by DD, the Demand draft should be taken in favour of ‘All India Management Association’ payable at New Delhi. The details of the DD should be filled in the online application form to complete the submission process. Application Form may be saved as a PDF File and may be printed, latest by 1400 hrs on 7th November 2019 (Thursday). Demand Draft and a printout of the application form has to be sent in a single envelope by Speed Post/Courier/Registered post, to reach ‘The Project Manager-CMS, All India Management Association, Management House, 15, Link Road, Lajpat Nagar Part 3, New Delhi 110024’, before 1400 hrs on 13th November, 2019 (Wednesday), to complete the application process. Those who make online payment via Debit/Credit card are not required to send the print-out of the application form.
For applications submitted after 14.00 hrs on 7th November, 2019, Application fee is to be paid only by Debit/Credit card.
Applicants can review and correct the information in the application form except those related to eligibility criteria, date of birth, category, email id, nationality and the discipline applied, from 1800 hrs on 13th November, 2019 to 1800 hrs on 15th November, 2019.
Admit Cards for DAT Prelim can be downloaded from http://admissions.nid.edu from 1600 hrs on 20th December 2019 (Friday).
Allotment of seat for M.Des will be conducted in person at Ahmedabad.
