The Joint Entrance Test (JET) 2019, for admission to the various programmes at Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune & Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata will be held on 24th February, 2019 (Sunday)
Those desirous of seeking admission to these institutes, leading educational institutions in the art and craft of film making and television production, need to go through a multi-stage selection process. The First Stage in this selection process is an All India Level written examination called as the Joint Entrance Test, 2019 (JET 2019), a written test of three hours’ duration consisting of objective type and subjective questions to be conducted in 26 centres across India. Based on the JET 2019 score of the candidates, FTII and SRFTI will send call letters to the candidates for the Second Stage of the selection process and thereafter, on successful accomplishment of all the requisites, finally admit students in their full time regular programmes for the academic year 2019.
JET date and Centre: JET 2019 will be held on 24th February, 2019 (Sunday), in two sessions (forenoon & afternoon), at Agartala, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Port Blair, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram. At the time of registration, applicants have to select any two test cities as per their preference from the drop down menu. After the last date of registration, applicants will be allotted one among the 2 preferred cities.

These 4 programmes are offered both at FTII and SRFTI (v) Art Direction & Production Design, FTII (5) (vi) Producing for Film & Television, SRFTI (6) (vii) Animation Cinema, SRFTI (7); Post Graduate Diploma Courses- 2 year (Group B): Acting, FTII (8); Post Graduate Certificate Course- 1 Year (Group C): Feature film Screenplay Writing, FTII (9)
The Post graduate diploma programmes in Direction & Screenplay Writing, Sound Recording & Sound design, Editing, Cinematography, Art Direction & Production Design and Acting offered by film wing of FTII, Pune, are considered equivalent to a Master's degree awarded by Indian Universities.
Programmes (Diploma/ Certificate) under the Television at (FTII) / Electronic and Digital Media [EDM] - (SRFTI) are the following: Producing and Direction for Electronic & Digital Media (2 years, Diploma, SRFTI); Direction (1, Certificate, FTII) (Paper 10); Cinematography for Electronic and Digital Media (2, Diploma, SRFTI); Electronic Cinematography (1, Certificate, FTII) (11); Editing for Electronic and Digital Media (2, Diploma, SRFTI); Video Editing (1, Certificate, FTII) (12); Sound for Electronic and Digital Media (2, Diploma, SRFTI); Sound Recording and Television Engineering (1, Certificate, FTII) (13); Electronic and Digital Media Management (2, Diploma, SRFTI) (14); Writing for Electronic and Digital Media (2, Diploma, SRFTI) (15)
Educational Qualification: For courses under the Film Wing Group: For Sound Recording & Sound Design applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics as a subject at Senior Secondary (10+2) level. For Art Direction & Production Design, eligibility is Bachelor’s degree in Applied arts, Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Interior Design or related fields in Fine arts or equivalent Diploma from a recognized institute in any of the above. For all other courses, the minimum educational qualification required is Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
For Courses under the TV (FTII) / EDM (SRFTI) Group, the minimum educational qualification for Sound Recording & Television Engineering and Sound for Electronic & Digital Media, the eligibility is Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics as a subject at Senior Secondary (10+2) level. For all other courses, it is Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
Those appearing for the final year of Bachelor's degree, and awaiting results, can also apply for JET 2019. However, such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme, only if they submit a passing certificate from the Principal / Registrar of their University/institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective institute) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree, on the date of the issue of the certificate.
Scheme of JET 2019: One can apply for only one course in the Film Wing group and only one course from the Television (FTII) / Electronic and Digital Media (SRFTI) group. JET will be of 3 hours’ duration. Examination of all film wing courses (Paper Nos. 1 to 9), will be conducted in the morning session on 24.2.2019 and those of TV wing courses (FTII) and EDM courses (SRFTI) (Paper Nos. 10 to 15) in the afternoon session. Each Question Paper will consist of maximum 100 marks, of which, 30 marks will be for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 70 marks for Descriptive Answers. The answers for Multiple Choice Questions will have to be marked on OMR sheet(s) provided to the candidate.
For Film Wing Courses, Section A (General Aptitude Test) which is common to all specializations, will have 15 Multiple Choice Questions from General Awareness (National / International), Indian History, Culture, Art, Architecture, Music, Folk-art etc. and 15 questions form Cinema, each carrying 1 mark. Section B (Specific Area Aptitude Test), will have questions from the respective specialization. This section is designed to test the ability and aptitude of a candidate in the specific field of cinematic expression. A total of 5 questions are to be answered. There will be 1 long descriptive question carrying 20 marks; 3 descriptive questions of 10 marks each to be answered out of 5 questions given, which may include sketches and / or black & white photographs and Short note questions which will include sub questions. (1 question of 20 marks) (4 out of 6 sub-questions to be answered).
Television (FTII) / Electronic and Digital Media (SRFTI) Courses: The test papers will carry maximum of 100 Marks, which will be divided into three sections: 30 Marks MCQ, 20 Marks Media specific descriptive (related to Television / Electronic and Digital Media Specific specialisations) and 50 marks Area Specific Descriptive (related to Respective Specialisations). Section A General Aptitude Test (Common to All Specializations) will have 15 questions of 1 mark each from General Awareness (National / International), Indian History, Culture, Art, Architecture, Music, Folk-art etc; 15 questions relating to Television, Electronic and Digital Media. Section B (Common to All Specializations) (Descriptive) is designed to test the basic understanding, familiarity and aptitude of the student towards Audio-Visual medium. There will be 1 long descriptive question carrying 20 marks. Section C will have questions from respective specialization. This is the Specific Area Aptitude Test (Descriptive) designed to test the ability and aptitude of a candidate in the chosen audio-visual field. It will have 5 Short descriptive / objective / pictorial questions carrying 10 marks each. A total of 5 out of 6 questions are to be answered.
Registration Fee: JET Registration fee is ₹1250/- for SC, ST and PwD category applicants for any one course in Film Wing Group. It would be ₹4000/- for all other categories of candidates for any one course in Film Wing Group.
The fee is ₹1250/- for SC, ST and PwD category Candidates for any one course in TV (FTII) / EDM (SRFTI) Group] and ₹4000/- for all other categories of candidates, for any one course in TV (FTII) / EDM (SRFTI) Group.
For courses which are offered by both Institutes, a candidate needs to pay registration fee only once, and he/she will be considered for admission to both Institutes.
A candidate is allowed to apply for only one course in the Film Wing group and only one course from the TV (FTII) / Electronic and Digital Media (SRFTI) group. Registration Fee shall be accepted online by Debit Card/Credit Card only.

Applicants can download the admit cards during 14.02.2019 to 24.02.2019. Admit cards will not be sent by post.
Score: JET 2019 score card will be made accessible on the JET website. JET 2019 score is valid only till December 31, 2019 and will accordingly be accessible on the website.
Admission Process: Each Institute is independent to mandate their own eligibility criteria (including academic cut-offs and relative weights) and follow different evaluation procedure, post the JET 2019 selection process. Performance in JET 2019 examination is an important component for consideration in the selection process. On the basis of performance in JET-2019, the list of candidates short-listed for the next level of selection will be made available on the website of the respective Institutes. Each institute will send interview letters to the short-listed candidates directly. The criteria for short listing may vary for different courses. Applicants may visit the admission hot links of the respective websites of the Institutes and read the prospectuses carefully for further information.
Medical Test: Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of JET 2019 will be required to undergo Medical test as per the selection criteria of both institutes which will be conducted by the Medical Officer(s) appointed by the respective institutes. Candidature of a short-listed candidate can be cancelled on the basis of the outcome of Medical test.
Reservation: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (NCL), 5% for PwD candidates.
