Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), an autonomous institute under Department of Space, Govt. of India, Valiamala P.O, Thiruvananthapuram- 695 547, has invited applications for admission to the Undergraduate Programmes offered by the Institute for 2018.
The Programmes offered at IIST are the following: (i) 4-Year B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering (60 Seats) (ii) 4-Year B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics) (60 Seats) (iii) 5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech and Master of Science/Master of Technology) Programme (20 Seats). Details on the structure of each Programme are given at the link www.list.ac.in/admissions/undergraduate and also in the Brochure that can be downloaded from there.
The qualifying Examination is 10+2 or equivalent. Applicant must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks, in Class XII or equivalent Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD candidates should be at least 65%. The marks scored in (i) Physics (ii) Chemistry (iii) Mathematics (iv) A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered) and (v) Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered), will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks criterion.
The qualifying examination should be any of the following:
Marks in JEE(Advanced)-2018: Applicant should have appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2018 conducted by IITs and secured the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2018 as given below
Rank list: The IIST UG-Admission rank list shall be prepared only for the eligible registered candidates, based on their JEE (Advanced)-2018 aggregate marks.
Application: Applicant has to register online at http://admission.iist.ac.in, Pay the registration fee online and Fill-in their choice of branch of study, as per the schedule announced.
Online registration can be done from 5 June 2018 to 15 June 2018 at http://admission.iist.ac.in. Instruction for registering is available at the site. The registered candidates shall be given an IIST Registration No. and a password.
Application Fee: Registration Fee for Male candidates in GEN and OBC-NCL categories is Rs. 600/-. For Female candidates in GEN and OBC-NCL and for SC, ST, PD applicants, it is Rs.300/-.
Online payment of Registration fee is to be completed by 16 June 2018 at https://www.onlinesbi.com/prelogin/icollecthome.htm. After completing online registration, applicant should remit the Registration Fee online at using SBI-Collect.
UG Admission rank list will be published on 18 June 2018.
Online filling-in of choices (preferences) of branch can be done from 19 June 2018 to 22 June 2018 (Tentative Dates)
Online allotment of seats (multiple rounds) will be conducted by IIST. The schedule (date/time) for each round of seat allotment will be announced in the website on 18th June 2018.
Fee Structure & Financial Assistance: The fees to be paid in each semester by all categories of candidates will be as follows. Tuition Fee 20000/-; Establishment Charges-Rs.8000/-; Student Amenity Fee- Rs.4000/-; Medical Fee- Rs.2000/-; Hostel and dining charges (only for the academic period of the semester)- Rs.14400/- (Total Rs.48400/-)
The first semester fee is to be paid online at the time of acceptance of the allotted seat during the admission process. The fee for remaining semesters has to be paid at the beginning of each semester. However, based on the category and academic performance of candidates in a semester, full/part semester fee paid by the candidate will be refunded at the end of the semester, after the declaration of the semester examination results.
On securing a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.5 and above (on a scale of 10) in any semester, General and OBC-NCL category students becomes eligible for the full semester fee (Rs. 48400/-), as DoS assistanceship and amount will be refunded at the end of the semester. In case of SC/ST and PD category, on securing a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.5 and above (on a scale of 10) in any semester, the student becomes eligible for the full semester fee as DoS assistanceship and hence Rs. 48400/- shall be refunded at the end of the semester. On securing a GPA between 5.5 and 6.5 (in a scale of 10) in any semester, the student becomes eligible for only the semester tuition fee as DoS assistance and hence Rs.20000/- shall be refunded at the end of the semester.
All UG students who are awarded full DoS assistanceship in any semester are also eligible for a reimbursable Book Grant of Rs.3000/- for the semester. To avail the book grant, a prior approval, production of bill and verification of the book are essential.
At the time of joining the institute, students should remit a caution deposit of Rs. 13000/- which is refundable (without interest) at the time of leaving the Institute.
Absorption in ISRO/DOS: DoS/ISRO shall provide job absorption in its establishments to the eligible B.Tech and Dual Degree students of IIST, in the order of merit and only to the extent of vacancies notified for IIST absorption (generally, this notification will be made in the final year of the programme). The eligibility criteria are: (i) Completion of the B.Tech. Programme in 4 years or the Dual Degree programme in 5 years (ii) A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.5 out of 10 (iii) Fully medically fit as per ISRO norms. DoS/ISRO does not guarantee ISRO/DoS job absorption of all eligible students. Students who are not offered absorption by ISRO/DoS are free of any financial obligations notwithstanding the DoS assistanceship that they have availed. Students who are offered a job in ISRO/DOS are mandated to serve as Scientist/Engineer-‘SC’ in any ISRO/DOS centres for a minimum period of 3 years. On failing to accept the job offer, a student is liable to pay Rs.10 lakhs (and any accrued interest till the date of payment) to IIST/DOS as per the Surety Bond (on a Rs.100/- Non-Judicial paper duly signed by the student, parent and surety) to be executed at the time of joining undergraduate programmes in IIST.
