IIRS-JET on March 21: Apply by February 23
Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a Unit of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and a premier institute for capacity building and research in the field of Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics, has invited applications from young and motivated persons for the Junior Research Fellow Eligibility Test (IIRS-JET)-2020 for being considered for temporary positions of Junior Research Fellows (JRF) under various research projects of IIRS from time to time.
As per the guidelines of the Department of Space (DOS), for the recruitment of the temporary positions of JRF in ISRO Centres/Units, the candidates apart from meeting the minimum educational criteria must also have qualified NET or equivalent qualification.
The IIRS-JET gives a unique opportunity to the candidates to qualify and fulfil the condition of NET qualification, before applying for any temporary post of JRF at IIRS as and when advertised. Accordingly, those who do not possess the minimum eligibility condition of NET or equivalent for applying to the post of JRF may apply for the IIRS-JET.
Those who have already qualified NET or equivalent examination are not required to appear for the IIRS-JET. The IIRS-JET is purely an ‘eligibility test’ of qualifying nature. Recruitment of JRF at IIRS is a separate and independent process for which the candidates have to apply against the advertisement released by IIRS based on its requirement.
Nature of the Test: The IIRS-JET will be a computer-based test of 2 hours duration consisting of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ) of one mark each. The paper will consist of three sections, with Section-1 being a subject section with 50 questions carrying 50 marks to be answered in 60 minutes; Section 2 being Basic Mathematics & Science (25,25,30) and Section-3, Aptitude & General English (25,25,30). For the subject section, candidates have to choose one of the optional themes from (i) Remote Sensing & Geoinformatics (ii) Earth Observation Applications in Atmospheric Science (iii) Earth Observation Applications in Agriculture (iv) Earth Observation Applications in Disaster Management (v) Earth Observation Applications in Forestry & Environmental Science (vi) Earth Observation Applications in Geosciences (vii) Earth Observation Applications in Ocean Science (viii) Earth Observation Applications in Urban & Regional Planning (ix) Earth Observation Applications in Water Resources (x) Programming for Geospatial Analysis and Modelling.
There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. Syllabus of the test is available in Annexure-A of the Information Bulleting that can be downloaded from https://www.iirs.gov.in
The score sheet will be issued to the candidate after the computer-based test. To qualify, the candidate has to score a minimum of 60% marks. Such candidates will be eligible for applying for the post of JRF at IIRS as and when advertised. The marks obtained in the IIRS-JET shall not be considered during the recruitment/selection of the JRFs at IIRS.
The score obtained by the candidate shall be valid for three years from the date of declaration of the result.
