Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) for admission to the five-year integrated Master of Arts (M.A) programme of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras for 2021, will be held from 9 am to 12 noon on 9 June 2021 (Sunday).
The Programme is offered in two streams- Development Studies and English Studies. There are 58 seats (29 for each) for the programme. Details related to the two streams are available in the Information Brochure that can be downloaded from http://hsee.iitm.ac.in/
Allocation of streams will be based on students’ preferences, their academic performance during the first three semesters (CGPA) and availability of seats under each stream.
HSEE will have 2 two parts. Part I of 2½ hours duration will have objective type multiple choice questions from (i) English and Comprehension Skill (25% weightage) (ii) Analytical and Quantitative Ability (25% weightage) (iii) General Studies (50% weightage) covering the areas of Indian Economy, Indian Society and Culture, World Affairs and Environment and Ecology; administered through computer. Negative marks may be awarded for incorrect answers in Part I. Detailed Syllabus of Part I is available in the Information Brochure
Part II involves essay writing for 30 minutes where the candidate can use the keyboard to type the essay in the space provided in the question paper or may opt to write the essay in offline mode (using pen and paper) upon request. The request can be made while downloading the Admit Card by clicking suitable option. Applicants will be required to write an essay on general topic involving description, or/and reflection or/and discussion.
Age: Applicant should have been born on or after October 1, 1996. For SC/ST/PwD categories, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years. Those belonging to SC/ST/PwD and born on or after October 1, 1991 are eligible.
Qualifying Examination: Applicant should have passed any one of the Plus Two level qualifying examinations for the first time in 2020 or should be appearing in it in 2021. The list of approved examinations is given in the HSEE 2021 Information Brochure that can be downloaded from http://hsee.iitm.ac.in/
Application: Application for HSEE-2021 can be submitted online at http://hsee.iitm.ac.in/ from 1 February 2021.
HSEE will be held at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram. An applicant has to give two choices for the exam centre while applying.
The last Date for submission of online application for payment made by Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card is March 15, 2021. For those making payment by Indian Bank Challan, last date for online application is 16 March 2021.
