Forensic Hackathon at Gujarat Forensic Sciences University; Apply by Feb 27
Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, in collaboration with Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS) and support and funding by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India will be conducting a Forensic Hackathon, a ‘Product Development Contest’, during 14-15 March 2020, with an objective of resolving the issues related to forensic investigations and applying forensic science and there by strengthening the justice delivery system.
The contest involves the submission of Ideas related to the themes specified as part of the contest. The broad themes included in the contest are the following (i) Forensic Chemical Sciences (Chemistry, Explosive, Toxicology, Narcotics) (ii) Forensic Physical Sciences (Physics, Ballistics & Questioned Documents) (iii) Forensic Biological Sciences (Serology & DNA) (iv) Forensic Electronics (Cyber/Computer Forensics, Mobile Forensics, Audio-Video) and (v) Forensic Psychology. The problem statements included under each broad theme are given at https://forensichackathon.com/theme. The topics mentioned are broad and not exclusive in nature. Any technology which helps in the crime investigation and crime prevention can be included in the list.
A team can submit only one idea. Entries are to be sent only in the prescribed format (PDF file format only). PDF file of the PPT in the prescribed format, stating the idea and proposed methodology has to be uploaded. Teams are allowed to participate in multiple domains. However each team can submit only one idea in each domain.
The contest is open for students and Professionals. Students of Government Approved Institutions/Universities/Colleges can participate in category 1. Individuals working in Forensic Science Laboratories/Police/Judiciary/MSME/start-up/Industry can participate in Category 2.
For student category, participation can be individually or by a team of maximum of 3 members. Each team must incorporate currently enrolled students in an educational institution in India (student ID numbers and a copy of ID must be provided for validation). One local mentor per team is mandatory, in addition to the 3 members.
For professional category, there can be a maximum of three members in a team. Each team should comprise of currently employed persons in Government or private organizations of India. The team may seek help from a local mentor, if required.

Confirmation for participation in final round will be notified on 2nd March 2020.
The final round of the Forensic Hackathon will be held at Gujarat Forensic Science University during 14-15 March, 2020.
Winner in each theme will showing best proof of Concept/Technology transfer will get a cash prize of Rs.3 lakhs. First and Second runners up will get Rs.2 lakhs and Rs.1 lkah respectively.
