Diploma and PG diploma programmes at KR Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts in Kerala
K.R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA), the film school established by Government of Kerala at Thekkumthala in Kottayam District, conceived as an innovative venture in professional film / audio-visual training and a research centre of international standards, has invited applications for admission to the various Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma Programmes offered at the Institute for 2019.
Diploma programme is offered in Acting while Post Graduate Diploma Programmes are offered in Script Writing & Direction, Editing, Cinematography, Audiography, Animation and Visual Effects. These are full-time courses and residential. Duration of the Courses is three years for Post Graduate Diploma Programmes and two years for Diploma Programme.
There are 50 seats for Post Graduate Diploma Programmes, with 10 seats in each programme. For Diploma there are 10 seats.
Eligibility: Only Indian citizens are eligible unless otherwise specified. Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) will also be treated at par with Indian citizens for the limited purpose of admission. However PIO/OCI candidates will not be eligible for any kind of reservation.
For admission to Post Graduate Diploma Programme, applicant should have a Degree from any University approved by UGC/Government of Kerala.
For Diploma Programme, applicant should have passed the Plus Two course/Higher Secondary/equivalent.
Those who have appeared for the final examination and are awaiting results may also apply, subject to submission of certificate or mark-sheet of the qualifying exam at the time of admission. An applicant can apply for only one programme of his/her choice at a time. There is no upper age limit.
Selection: Eligible applicants have to undergo a two stage screening. The first is a preliminary entrance examination to be held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode, and at Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi on 13 October 2019 (tentative).
Those who are shortlisted in the written test will be called for an orientation programme and interview. Admission to the course will be based on the performance in the orientation programme and interview.
The preliminary Entrance examination will have 2 parts. Part I of 1 hour duration and carrying 50 marks will be General Awareness which will have 50 objective type questions carrying 1 mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The test is designed to assess the candidate’s awareness of general development and trends in the fields of visual arts and science, events of current and historical interest and the broad aptitude and appreciation of the applicant of arts and aesthetics and proficiency in English language. Part II is the Special Aptitude Test of 2 hours duration carrying 100 marks. It will have descriptive type questions intended to assess the candidate’s understanding of cinema through descriptive questions and visual assisted questions based on the subject specialization.
The special Aptitude test will focus on the candidate’s ability to relate his or her own appreciation of visual arts and science into creative problem solving, deductive reasoning and to find solutions to short problems that require quick, creative and intelligent responses. There will be essay questions that probe into the candidate’s creative thinking on topics presented through documents, pictures etc. There will be 10-15 short questions and 2-3 essay type questions.
The entrance for PG Diploma will have questions of the Degree level and that for Diploma course, questions of Plus 2 level.
Application Fee: Application fee is Rs. 2000/- for General candidates and Rs.1000/- for SC/ST candidates. Application fee can be remitted online while submitting the online application using Net banking or Credit/Debit card.
Application: Application can be submitted only online through the website at www.krnnivsa.edu.in latest by 5 pm on 23 September 2019. Prospectus can also be downloaded from this site. Online Payment of application fee can be done by Registered Candidates, up to 5 pm on 25 September 2019.
Applicants are not required to send the printout of application form/other documents to KRNNIVSA. They may keep a copy for future reference.
Admit card for the examination can be downloaded from the website from 5 October 2019.
The annual tuition fee for the PG Diploma courses is Rs. 65000/- and that for the Diploma course is Rs. 45000/-. Other fees also have to be paid. The total amount to be remitted at the time of admission will be Rs.123000/- for PG Diploma and Rs. 103000/- for Diploma course.
