Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Fine Arts Avenue, Cochin -682016, under the Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying & Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare; Government of India has invited applications for admission to the Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) and Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) / Marine Fitter Course (MFC) for 2019.
The Four year Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) degree programme spread over 8 semesters is affiliated to CUSAT, Kochi and approved by DG Shipping, Mumbai. The course will be conducted at CIFNET, Kochi only and the curriculum has been designed with integrated practical & onboard training on ocean going fishing vessels.
Eligibility: Applicant should have passed 10 + 2 with minimum 50% marks in all subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) or Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM). SC/ST applicants need only a pass in 10 + 2 with PCB or PCM. Those who are appearing for 10+2 exams during March, 2019 are also eligible. Age of the applicant should be between 17 and 20 years as on 1st October, 2019 (max. age for lateral entry is 22). Total intake is 40 (Open-31 -with reservation of 27%-OBC, 15%-SC, 7.5%-ST and 10%-EWS), NRI-1, Foreign National-1, and Lateral Entry System-7. Details are given in the Prospectus.
Entrance Test: Selection will be based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) & Academic Merit. CET will be held at Kochi, Chennai & Visakhapatnam on 8.6.2019 (Saturday). The Common Entrance Test will be of objective type, with questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths and English language. For each correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded and for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
Application: Application form can also be downloaded from www.cifnet.gov.in and submitted with DD for the prescribed fees which is Rs.500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST). Application form and Prospectus can also be had by post from the Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-16 on payment of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST) by Demand Draft drawn in favour of Senior Administrative Officer, CIFNET payable at Ernakulam and a self addressed stamped envelope (with stamps worth Rs.20/- affixed). They can be obtained on payment of the application fee by cash from CIFNET Office, Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam.
Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) / Marine Fitter Course (MFC): These are 2 years trade course (4 semester) with practical training on board fishing vessel out at sea and these Courses have been introduced by DGET, New Delhi under Craftsmen Training Scheme of NCVT. The courses are conducted at CIFNET Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam.
Eligibility: Applicant should have a Pass in 10th Standard with 40% marks In Mathematics and Science separately. Those who have appeared for 10th exams during March, 2019 are also eligible. Applicant should be between 15 and 20 years of age as on 1st August 2019. Upper Age is relaxable to SC/ST by 5 years. Intake will be 48 for VNC and 48 for MFC (@ 16 seats each at Kochi, Chennai, Vizag).
Selection will be done on an All India Common Entrance Test (CET) to be held at Kochi, Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata, Patna, Port Blair, Berhampur, Veraval & Mangalore on 22.06.2019 (Saturday). Those selected will be paid Rs.1500/- per month as stipend. Application fee is Rs. 300/- for General and Rs. 150/- for SC/ST. Details on payment m0de are given in the Prospectus.
