CIFNET Admissions: Last date extended to 24 May
The last date for applying for the Degree/Craftsman Training courses at Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare (Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying & Fisheries), Government of India has for 2018-19 has been extended to May 24, 2018.
The Bachelor Programme offered is Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science), a 4 year/8 semester degree Programme, with integrated practical & on board training on ocean going fishing vessels, affiliated to CUSAT, Kochi and approved by DG Shipping, Mumbai, to be conducted at CIFNET, Kochi only.
Craftsman Training courses offered by CIFNET include the Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) and the Marine Fitter Course (MFC) which are 2 year (4 semesters) trade courses with practical training on board fishing vessel out at sea, introduced by DGET, New Delhi under Craftsmen Training Scheme of NCVT. The courses are conducted at CIFNET Kochi/Chennai/Visakhapatnam and the participants are eligible for Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC).
For admission to the Bachelor Programme, applicant should have passed 10+2 with minimum 50% marks in English and Mathematics and aggregate marks in other Science subjects. SC/ST applicants need only pass in 10+2. Those appearing for 10+2 exams during March, 2018 are also eligible. Applicant should be 17 to 20 years of age as on 1 October, 2018. Total Intake is 33 (Open-31, NRI-1, Foreign National-1). Selection will be based on a Common Entrance Test (CET), Academic merit and Interview. The CET will be held at Kochi, Chennai & Visakhapatnam on 9 June 2018 (Saturday). The structure of CET is given in the Prospectus that can be downloaded from http://www.cifnet.nic.in/
For admission to the Craftsman Training courses, applicant should have a Pass in 10 Standard with 50% marks in Mathematics and Science separately. Applicant should be of 16 to 20 years as on 1 August 2018. Upper Age limit is relaxable by 5 years to SC/ST. The Intake capacity for VNC course is 48 and that for MFC course is also 48 (@ 16 seats each at Kochi, Chennai, Vizag).
Selection will be based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) to be conducted on an All India basis, at Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Patna, Pot Blair and Bhubaneswar on 23 June 2018 (Saturday). The Selected candidates will be paid Rs.1500/- per month as stipend.
